1 MOA from a Norinco M-14? is it possable?

M1, Sniping is a completely separate type of long distance shooting. Frankly, it's just long-distance hunting. (with the other roles of a sniper lumped into it).

The tools the military uses for long distance hunting have many funtional and practical limits on accuracy.

There are many AR's that shoot half minute with minimal modifications. There are dramatic improvements that can be made to the Norinco to can make it sub MOA without changing the barrel, but it does depend on the quality of the base rifle.

If you would like to dramatically improve your group size with a norinco, you only need a screw driver: shut the gas port.
 
Looks like you answered your own questions. If you want a stock Norc M14 to shoot consistently to 1 MOA you'll need deep pockets first. Then get someone knowledgeable about making it into a tackdriver or do the trial and error yourself. There's no easy way unless you have discovered the tricks that Hungry knows and he got that from experience. Knowledge again.

Many AR-15's can be made to shoot ½ MOA easily and some have been setup with 30" barrels for long range.

I owned a Hart heavy barreled Supermatch once. It had a 10" twist, MacMillan stock and all the refinements. Getting the scope mounts settled in took time. It would shoot 1MOA, but for 1,000yds a 22" barrel barely gets it there. I shot it at Connaught in a practice session once alongside Target rifle shooters and soldiers with C3's. I got my ass handed to me. It was never intended to be a long range gun. Up to 600 meters it perform nicely. Not saying that snipers/marksmen haven't done well with it beyond that, but the bolt actions rule when precision and long range counts and for a lot less money and development time.

Still like my stock Norc for plinking and hunting. IMO it's best role. :)
 
There are plenty of 1/2 MOA semi's. They are called AR15's. Look up companies like Les Baer and their accuracy guarantees. The world it be a changing.

With so much 'doctrine' floating about, it is hard to see how the feats mentioned are possible.

That is why actually building them, loading and shooting them properly can change paradigms.

The Norc M305's that I have shot, tuned and played with were way better built then other US makes. Never had any function issues and I don't recommend swapping USGI parts.

The chambers that came with that batch of M305's (a few years back now) were almost idential to the M852 match chamber. They shot very very well.

Well, enough to be MOA or better with some tuning but with all original parts. Able to hit clay pigeons at 550yds. Not everytime but certainly enough to keep one amused. Of course wind doping had alot to do with misses too.

I would suggest you trust those like Hungry who have more M1A tuning experience then CGN put together. The info comes from hands on real world experience.

This is not an ideal platform to build a tack driver and it will required huge sums of funds for small improvements but it can and has been done.

I already know how to do most of this stuff to a bolt action, however the workings of a semiauto are a little more complex, and still a bit of a mystery to me. so if anyone can shed some light on what I need to do to the inner workings, it would be helpful...Just the facts jack, thats all I need.

Yep - it works !

Also helps to load one round at a time by hand - no mag in the well.

Been doing it for many years with no slam fire (I keep the inside of my bolt clean}

Mine shot an honest 10" scoped. Then it went to live with someone else. Lots of other guys have had good results so I'm inclined to chalk it up that my rifle was NFG.
 
Well I guess I stand corrected, and happy to as well, had I known there were such capabilities to be unlocked from a Norinco I'd have bought one much sooner. Thanks for the update guys, I hope my M-305 is a straight shooter out of the box, if not I’m sure I'll have fun tweaking it. THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT INFO GUYS.

And while I'm at it, I guess I should ask how Mystic Precision can aid me in my quest for sub MOA's from a Norinco, do you sell parts or deal with anyone who does?
