Looking for a one piece scope base for a weatherby vanguard 2 in .223. I've tried the weaver one that is supposed to fit, (short and long action) but it does not. Someone must have run into this? What did you end up using and where did you get it?

Are they not the same mt as the Rem 700?

no, the weatherby/howa/vangaurd is a slight bit shorter just to make it remington like without being remington, kind of a dumb design yet smart all at the same time as only proprietary bases will fit with the exception of 2 piece bases

Didn't know that ...... Thanks

If you look on a Weaver chart you’ll see a notation #1 for needing shims. The package will say the same, or “May need shim” by Vanguard. “May” is sort of the operative word, because some rifles do and some don’t. A straight edge across the bases is the quick way to check before you mount the scope. Misalignment by .020” or more is typical, when its there.

Hopefully you never bent your scope, but chances are you have.

The Mossberg and S+W 1500 took Rem 700 bases years back ? Don't recall if they were 1 or 2 piece going back 40 years in my head.

The scope is fine. I found both 1 piece and 2 piece talleys at brownells made for the vanguard.
The remington 700's although fit, dont mate well with the vanguard receiver and dont work well...not enough elevation in scope. Hopefully this thread helps someone avoid some issues.
