I've been thinking of changing my setup on one of my rifles. To have this rifle setup with one scope and a load for varmints and another setup with a different scope and load for hunting deer. The scopes would be mounted on the Leupold quick release rings. Has anyone tried this out and any thoughts on the good or bad side of this setup ?

350tracker;

I can see no reason that this won't work as you say. I do this for one rifle and load whenever I hunt far away exotic lands, I sight in with my first choice scope and then remove it and replace it with my backup scope and sight it in. I then go back to my first choice scope and recheck. They have always been within group size when swapped back and forth using both Leupold/Redfield set ups or Weaver rings and bases. Of course the rings stay with each scope and changing only takes a screwdriver which I take as well.
Torque consistency is the biggest element in returning to zero.
Two scopes, two loads should work every bit as well, but you must recheck each time in case something changes. However I've found adjustments required only take a shot or two if any and usually less than a moa.

Definite +1 on this. On any hunt that I can't walk to from my back door, I always have a spare scope sighted-in in a second set of rings. I also have a couple of guns that have a second, higher-powered scope ready in a second set of rings, to be installed and used for load development at the range, as opposed to actual hunting with the lower-powered scope that usually lives on the gun.

Even though they all return to zero pretty well, and even on the few that always return 100%, I still need to fire a shot or two just to keep the anal worry-wart in me quiet.:redface:

I have one custom thumbhole stock (left hand shooter with right hand bolt actions) for 5 different Rem 700 BDL V.S. rifles and one Leupold target scope for all five. Each rifle has a Nightforce rail and the rings stay on the scope. They are all different cartridges so a dial in is a must each time I swap over. Not sure if it would work if I kept a note book handy and recorded the settings for each rifle. I think the OP's idea should work for him. Good luck OP and please post the results.

I'm missing the 6mm and 7mm-08 in my short action collection of 700 BDL V.S. If someone has one for sale or trade, PM me and we'll see if we can work something out. The wood isn't important.
