Just used my Paco tool on some rimfire ammo for the first time this evening and did two boxes of forty, how that guy does 500 in 15 minutes is hard to believe. Made some of the Nasti-Nose hollow points out of American Eagle 38grain. Just checked out a factory box of Win Powerpoints and they come with a fairly large hollow point, perhaps that has something to do with their following as a great rimfire round. Apparently you are supposed to re-sight your rifle scope in the these altered rounds which I will be doing on saturday, and I shall report back. FS

This is the tool that reshapes and trues up rimfire ammo, right? What protection does it have against a sensitive shell going off? Vent holes, burst pannels etc?

Zero protection skeet gunner, they say to do the reforming just a solid non metallic surface so I used the wife's nylon cutting board, worked great, only wrecked one round. Will shoot them in a test this weekend. FS

Paco Tool Part Deux

So guess what I learned in the last 24 hours? I accur'Zed and Nastinosed 160 Fed AM Eagle 38 grainers. So I figure that enough for a good range test with a variety of .22's. Genius at work lets see how they chamber before I get all the way out to the range? Well wouldn't ya know it if ya hit those bullets too hard they'll chamber, sometimes, but the will not extract!! So now I have to run the whole works through a bolt gun to see which ones will work and which will not.
Out of 160 I had 55 that I wacked too hard. So now its only two short taps with the hammer instead of three. FS

well, don't forget that after you fire it is only the *case* that will be extracted. ;) If it chambers without having to close the bolt with tons of force it should be fine.

Its true you might be going overboard but failure to extract an unfired round is a symptom rifles with accurate match chambers also exhibit.

The issue with match chambers is that the chamber is so short that when you chamber a round the bullet is engaging the leade, if not the rifling, and can be difficult to extract as a result. Naturally after firing the bullet is gone, and so the empty case will extract without abnormal resistance.

In this case, I think the bullet is simply being expanded outwards slightly by the action of enlarging the hollow points, and so even without a match chamber the now larger diameter bullets may be tighter in the chamber and exhibiting similar behaviour to sporting rounds in a match chamber. But, again, as long as the rounds will chamber without too much force required on closing the bolt there shouldn't be any problem. After firing they should extract and eject as normal. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for that info Shorty, all of the rounds did chamber quite easily, so yes as you say the empty should extract, which I did not know. I had an email from Paco stating the same information. I have also accur'zed some Win 37 grain hollow points and some Win Dyna points , neither of which shot particularly well in my BRNO 2E's or my Savage Mark II. So I'll shoot them in a warm barrel and see if they do indeed group any better. So here are the rounds that I am going to test out.
American Eagle 38 gr Acu'rzred 20 rounds
" " Acr and Nastinosed 55rounds with big hollow point
" " " " 140 rounds with slightly smaller HP
Win Dyna point Acu'rized 20 rounds
Win 37 gr HP " " 15 rounds
So I will shoot a target with non accurized rounds with each, then shoot a target right next to it with the altered rounds.
If some one would like to PM me with an email address, I'll send the images if some one would like to post them for me. Thanks FS

How to buy the PACO tool??

This looks rather interesting, I prefer large gaping hollow points like Win Xpert but my gun does not group as well as other ammo.

Couple of questions....

How was it to get the Paco tool sent up here? (I assume it was purchased via mailorder from the fella in AZ.)

How long does it take to run through a box of 50?

How well do the large Nastinose shells feed?

It might be worth it if it does not take 2 months to get it shipped to Calgary.

Surfclod I ordered my tool and via money order $62.00 US dollars, He sent March 30th and I got it 2 weeks later via US post.
It took me half and hour to do my first 50 and my second 50, but then I got on to how much tapping you really needed, and really you go pretty quickly. Paco the expert says he can do 500 in and hour, well not me
On the Nastinose it depends on what kind of rifle you have, mine are bolt guns. And it will also depend on how large you make the Hollow Point. I have made some of each( big and bigger ) and we'll see how it goes at the range tomorrow. FS

If you go to Gunblast.com and archive Paco tool there are two reviews you can read, or the Rimfire central and search Paco Tool there is alot of discussion there hardly any of which I found informative.

Just back from the range and had a great day. The accurizer on a whole is a tremendous piece of gear and the time that I spent making bullets less round was well worth it. I have 2 BRNO 2E's and one shoots better than the other. The less accurate of the two made way nicer groups with the altered ammo than the gun that is already a great shooter. In the tests with Dyna Points I shot a group of 5shots of regular ammo then a group of 5 with the accur and every time the accurized groups had holes touching that anyone could cover with their thumb, same with theAmerican Eagles. I tried PMC Moderator and after being altered their performance was poor. The SuperX 37 grain ammo showed little difference in accuracy. I did shoot some of the hollowpoint rounds and although they were easily MO GOpher none of the rounds were touching, mind you they don't make any great accuracy claims on the Nastinose, as this round is supposed to shine in the killing fields.
Sorry not have have pics guys there were a bunch of people at the range for the first time ever and I didn't take any pics. I am likely going gopher hunting next week and we'll see how well the Nastinosed ammo performs. FS
