Hey there I'm new to the forum and have a couple 10/22 barrel questions. Hope this is the right place to post this.
So i have a Ruger 10/22 with an archangel 556 stock. I am looking to replace the stock barrel with a new bull barrel. So far I have been looking at a Green Mountain 10/22 Fluted Bull Barrel Blue 16.5" x 920" I see a store in BC carries them. But I have also been thinking about an even shorter barrel. I have seen an 12.5" Dlask Arms bull barrel as well as their 16" options. I have been leaning towards the 16" barrel, but if the 12.5" is comparitivley accurate than I may want that. My concerns are:
Will the 12.5" barrel be noticibly inaccurate compared to the 16.5"?
Has any one tried either if these barrels?
What barrel would you recomend in <16" range?
And I want to keep the rifle non-restricted. As far as I am aware long as it is a manufactured barrel the length doesnt matter unless the overall length becomes less than 660mm for rimfire

Any help or recomendations is greatly appreciated
Thanks
Jon

you will notice no difference between 16" all the way down to 8" barrels for the 10/22.
the only thing that is effected is velocity and even then its so small of change its insignificant.

i have both a 18.5" bull on a 10/22 and a 8.5" bull on a 10/22 and there is no difference in accuracy.

Ah thanks had thought about the noise levels but it's not a main concern for me. More concerned about accuracy and reliability.
Thanks
Jon

Ok thanks i have been checking those ones out. Think i may go with the 12.5" just wish they had the fluted in stock.
How was the install? And how do you like them?

Thanks for the info

Ok thanks for all the info. I think I'm going to pick up at 12.5" Dlask. What are people running on the threads? Just the thread protector? Ive seen they make some brakes and compensators. Its pretty standard threading right? So in theory i could put like a .223 brake on there right?

Thanks
Jon

Tagging this for interest, seems like I will need a nice 10 -22 project and this talk has me thinking.

I'm new to this Ruger 10-22 thing,so I'm wondering if one type of Ruger model 10-22 is a better candidate for the modes listed in this thread.

Thanks

I think brakes and comps are put on just for looks on the .22 calibre really.
Might put a comp on mine for looks... but I like its short look.

From what I gather, if you are going to heavily mod your 10/22 just get the cheapest 10/22 you can find. You will probably end up replacing everything on it when the modding sickness sets in...

I was thinking that myself, but I suppose it would be better to get a model in SS versus blued , as most aftermarket barrels are SS ?

I got mine with the standard blue barrel knowing I would replace it soon enough. If you were going to keep the barrel than maybe stainless would be nicer but as he said once you start changing stuff you will never stop hah

IMG_0153.jpgThere was an action ,trigger, and bolt,on the EE. Just a few days ago.
That's all you need to start your project.Barrels can be SS,cerecoted Steel, aluminum, CFW and probably a few more.
I have this for my kid,I plan on putting a tac sol aluminum barrel on there.
Should be about 4 lbs.IMG_0175.jpg

I used to have this,Nordic chassis,stripped and cerecoted silver,Tacsol barrel. Way more$$$$$
