10/22 accuracy

hey, if you search FTE on here I had a post on the exact same thing. I decrudded the top arch of the breech face and FTE problem solved entirely.

So you were getting failure to extract? Was it stovepipes where it was extracted but not ejected properly or wouldnt extract out of chamber and next round was behind it?

Like arcstarter, I found that ammo brand plays a pretty critical role. My best groups are with TENEX, second best is Win 333 which fortunately is dirt cheap in comparison to TENEX. The worst I found in my set-up was Federal (blue box) and the Blaser.

I generally shoot around 45 yards. With my stock set-up I was getting about 2 inch groups... which I though was pretty fair for a old rifle. I recently upgraded my barrel/stock tothe Butler creek target package. The rifle is now a really solid tack driver. I would say my group have been reduced in half if not even better if I take my time. Interestingly the ammo preference of the 10/22 remained the same after the barrel and stock swap!

I find CCI Velocitor and Blaser 40 grn LRN to shoot and function best out of mine. It's sort of odd how different 10/22s seem to be from each other.

My 10/22 has Volquartsen barrel and trigger group, and recoil buffer, sits in a revolution bedded stock. Sports a millett 6-25xbig scope on volquartsen cantilever mount too.

Winchester power points are it's favorite diet - get about 3/4" group at 50 shooting off bipod.

I have had to and for the most part adapt to the trigger of everything i've owned. I would say that if i did an upgrade to my 10/22 from stock the best money i could spend first and foremost would be for a superb trigger. Will someone who has completed various upgrades one at a time and compared accuracy under your best control eloborate on the group gain for each upgrade. Thanks in advance.
