Really how accurate can you make a 10/22 ?

Install a high end aftermarket barrel, and a target trigger what else can really be done ?

not trying to start anything just curious as I may attempt a build but I'd want to know what kind of accuracy is obtainable.

Is under an inch at 100 possible on consistent basis ?

Thanks

I recently tested 15 different loads for my 10/22, @ 50 yards. Very surprising, the 32 grain Stingers were basically in the same hole. Followed by 36 grain Mini mags, and 40 grain Velocitors, inside of a dime.

Maybe not what you're looking for, but I found it pretty interesting.

Sounds about right . The range sounds about what a plinker/hunting .22LR is designed for. Seems alot more people shooting semi auto rim fires from benches and bipods @ 100 to 200yds and looking for M40 accuracy. These stock rifles are the best plinking fun you can have. Don't spoil it on a bipod.

I'm looking to hear some input from some guys that have modded their 10/22 to see what kind of accuracy their getting ?

I have and have had stock 10/22s and never been overly happy with their accuracy, dont get me wrong most of them shot well and function excellent just were not consistent on the bench.

So is it worth it to put a match barrel. trigger group etc on one or not ?

a match grade barrel and trying out which ammo works best will be the most bang for your buck so to say. My 10/22 shot a .479" ten shot group at 50 yards with everything stock but GM barrel and Boyd stock. .22lr ammo is so cheap for 50rds you can afford to buy one of every ammo out there to try and see what works for your barrel.

You check this thread out later today, and I'll post up some pics of my end results after sighting in my scope on my modded 10/22.

I had mine out the other day to sight the gun in for the first time. I did one shot, one bore snake, one shot, one bore snake. Did that for the first 10 shots, then I did that after every 10 shots for 200 rds. My scope was off due to the fact I had it miss alighned on the rail. I still managed to put two out of three Velocitors into the same hole @100yrds resting the gun on a frozen sandbag with my jacket on it! So I deceided to make a homemade gun rest. Which is what I did. Scope is all lined up proper now, so I'm going to re sight it in today using the bench to get the best possible groupings I can.

My rifle has....

Green Mountain 18" ss Fluted Barrel
Richards Microfit "Tac-Driver" Silhouette Style Stock with Tactical Forearm in Electric Blue
Volquartsen Extractor
Volquartsen Match Hammer and Sear
Bolt Buffer
Polished Reciever
Raidiused Trigger Plunger

All I can think of off the top of my head....

Thanks this is the info Im looking for. w:h:

I suspect optimum accuracy requires ammunition that is priced well beyond the typical $3.00 per box I am willing to pay. I have a heavy GM barrel and target trigger, and I probably can't shoot any tighter than 2-3" groups at 100 yards with standard hunting ammo. If I can hit a flip up 22 target most of the time at 100 yards, I'm happy.

Well here are some pics from today...

I'm really impressed with the 25yrd target, but NOT at 100yrds, although I DID manage to put two bullets through the same hole on two different spots on the target. There WAS a light cross wind from the right to left down range. So weather that made all the shots to the left.... I'm not sure. Only fired the 10rds at 100yrds. On the 25yrd target you'll see 3 shots a tad high but grouped together... For those 3 consectutive shots the rifle slid back on my rest. ( I know excuses, excuses! lol )

The ammo was CCI Velocitors. I had fired some Federal bulk ammo, but those targets are the Velocitors!

If you are trying to improve on this, try various ammunition to see what groups the best. Some of my guns like AE 38gr and CCI mini mags. Federal and Remington "target" ammo fairs no better. Some boxes of Federal bulk shoot better than others. I think there are a lot of quality control issues in your standard cheap ammo, but it gets the job done. Frustrating though if you are trying to use it to shoot tight groups. A shot flies off centre, and it could be the ammo.

The people that say the 10/22 isn't very accurate or consistent, are the mostly the same that buy the cheapest, and only use one type of ammo.

Very true. Many guns get put down for that reason. My Norinco M14 will shoot 5-6" groups with surplus 7.62 nato ammo, and 1.5" groups with Federal hunting 308 ammo. Another guy on here posted about his Norinco M4. He hand loaded decent ammo and shot outstanding groups with it. How many people will never know how well their guns shoot because they assume all ammo is the same.

I wanted to only shoot the CCI Velocitors due to there ft/lbs of energy. I'll have to try a 50yrd target and see how I fair. I do agree that ammo will play the largest factor in accuracy. It will be a toss up between bang on accuracy, and ft/lbs of energy for knock down power. I want the most knock down power and as much accuracy as possible. I'm going to prove that my .22 can and will be harvesting coyotes, against most people saying they are under powered.

I'll be buying some other high end ammo and trying it out as well. I see other people get nice groups at 100yrds compared to my disaster.
