I have seen a lot of threads debating the 10 22. So I thought I would post a few groups. First two are ten shots the third is five. Distance is 25 yards using a front rest and the rifle is scoped.

Mine will do smaller groups than that at a hundred yards -

I have a VOlkscortzen trigger group on a target stainless stock slide extractor/ in a dark laminate wood factory stock and a green mountain fluted stainless and at 100 yards with Remington yellow jacket hollow points even though they don't feed too well. I can get groups that tight at 100 plus if the barrel stays cool enough keep in mind I always start with a clean barrel and put it away that way. I building another one with the timiny trigger group and probably an aftermarket stock this time.
 
Hey shms~good shootin'! Looks like you got one of the good ones, I wasn't as lucky. (nor were my buddies who bought 10/22s)

lol I'm sure it will. Granted, this is a thread about 10/22s. Oh wait...I see a Ruger-made trigger guard. :rolleyes:

What ammo do you use? I have similar grouping with my SR 22 rifle on 50 yrds, but only with CCI Blazer 40gr.
 
This is my 10/22, 10 round group at 100 yards...
Basic (circa 1980) 10/22 Carbine

Nothing wrong with those groups shms. My old carbine is still original after having it for 40 years and still shoots well, i just like my bolt CZ`s a little more these days.

I was using CCI blazers they cycle well for me. I also use american eagle I seem to get more jams with them than the blazers. Depends what I can get on sale. I am finding I prefer the blazers so I will be looking for deals on them.

If a 10/22 jams, there is something wrong. Mine is 33 years old and eats every kind of ammo flawlessly. The only reason a clean 10/22 would fail is:

1) Bad ammo (no specific kind, just a bad batch)
2) Lots of dirt buildup after 5000 rounds in winter with too much oil mixed with GSR
3) Bad magazines (aftermarket with plastic lips)

When troubleshooting a 10/22, ALWAYS use the original 10 rnd EOM magazine. I use BC Steel Lips for plinking and they are great but not the same as the original. Aftermarket mags typically have trouble with the Yellow Jacket type with the funny squared (truncated) tips. Otherwise they are 99.5% reliable.

I have had great success with Blazer in every .22 I own but I get just as good performance from Wal Mart special 555 bulk ammo. They all work but I lean towards bulk hollow point, high velocity.
 
BUT IT ISNT A 10-22 ANYMORE


10-22 target model - stock ruger barrel and action . Yes, properly bedded tuned etc.

Put some decent ammo through and your groups will be half that of the bulk ammo. I tried a lot of ammo, anything under $100 a brick and Lapua Super Club works best in mine and is $51 a brick.
