I am considering putting a new barrel on my old 10/22 and I am having a hard time deciding what brand to buy. I was thinking prob in the 16" long range. I was decided on a Dlask but then I talked to my local gun smith and he told me that he has installed a few of them for customers and his opinion was that they were a very poor barrel ( very rough rifling) so that kinda turned me off of Dlask. So what other brands of barrels are condsiderd to be accurate and have nice workmanship (that also won't break the bank)

i run a Dlask, its a great barrel. ive no problems with it at all.
i also run a tactical solutions one, again great barrel but your gonna pay at least $250 for one of those.
my dad put a Green Mountain on his, nice barrel.
heavy as hell compared to my TS one, but nice.
almost half the price as my TS too.
i also shot one of those barrels that The Shooting Edge sells (calgary) but i cant recall their brand off the top of my head, again, nice barrel, shoots good, around $150 i think it was.

all in all i have yet to find a 'crappy' after market bull barrel.
if i was gonna put out the money for another right now id probably go Dlask just because hes one of the only canadian guys that make them and i like to support local products, and i have his stuff and like it.

plus Joe will go out of his way to help you out if you run into problems!

Your LGS smith must be smoking something...Dlask Arms rock.

I put a Tactical Solutions barrel on my wife's 10/22, she loves it. Accurate and light and a very nice looking barrel, but should be for the price.

Never owned a Dlask but heard nothing but good things about them from guys that do and were on the top of my list, but chose the TS to keep the weight down. It's all in what you want, but I defiantly wouldn't shy away from Dlask.

I am kinda leaning towards the Tactical Solutions barrel because of the light weight the only thing turning me off about it is the price. I'm still considering the the Dlask for about 100 bucks cheaper than the TS. Sorta on the fence about the two lol

There is a fluted green mountain bull bbl. on the EE for about $100. The same people that manufacture for the US military do a run on green mtn now and then, you know they are good, and not easy to find.

I seen that barrel on the EE, I contacted the guy but it was already sold

if weight is an issue with you then spend the extra and go with the TS.
that is what im currently running, the thing is feather light.
plus they come in cool colors!

its seriously like 1/10th the weight of my metal bull barrels.

I installed a Mc Gowen 16" match sporter barrel in my wife's 10/22 and it
shoots quite well. I'll have to run more different brands of ammo through it
to find the perfect combo, but it's showing promise.:)

Your gunsmith is wrong. I have a Dlask 16" heavy barrel on mine along with a Boyd's Tacticool stock and it is awesome. I have also cleaned up the trigger pull and bedded the last couple inches of the barrel myself. It has a very tight chamber to help with accuracy with inexpensive ammo so it is hard to extract live rounds (I can live with that).

My second question is who uses a gunsmith to install a Ruger 10/22 barrel? Very easy to do yourself.

I hear kidd makes a good barrel as well. When I was thinking of a build thats what I was gonna run

i know kidd makes triggers but didnt know they made barrels.
i know what the triggers cost, im afraid to see what the barrels run!

Kidd makes the whole gun too... in their Supergrade... and barrels, and bolts, and triggers etc... etc... nice stuff too... I don't find their products are overpriced; trigger groups run $250-275ish, barrels $200-250ish... top quality stuff, the tough part is finding one... Fab Sports got a bunch of barrels in a month ago, they only lasted a few days. Jo Brooks in Manitoba carries Kidd products too.

Well I don't think my gunsmith is wrong , he is a stand up guy and has never steared me wrong. He never said Dlask barrels were crap all he said was he looked at the boars with his boar scope the chambers and rifling looked rough compared to some other brands. He also said they shot very well though. He also told me that Dlask buys there barrel blanks from some other company ( I can't remember who he said it was) and has them cut and finished to there specs. And you would be surprized what people take to a gun smith to do. I have seen people bring in guns to his shop just to have them cleaned. There are many people out there that just don't have the time , have way to much money, or just don't know how to much of anything. Here is an example, I was at the gun shop on day and this guy comes in all pissed off . He has this brand new Rem. with a new leupold on it and he is compaining that he just bought this gun at the shop and paid to have the scope mounted and bore sighted and he was not happy with the work done because he went out to the gun range and the rifle was shooting 6 inches low and 5 inches to the right and was demanding the gunsmith should fix his issue.

I've scoped alot of bores... GM, Kidd, WP, ERS, Shilen, TacSol, etc... etc... and I can tell you that Dlask bores are as good or better than any of these, of a dozen random samples, and their crowns are very nice... Any company can have a bad bore slip through production... but in your opening statement you said that your gun smith stated that he had installed "a few" of them and that they were "very poor barrels..." I call bullsh*t on that... there is NO WAY that he saw "a few" poor barrels... and I personally doubt that he saw even one poor barrel... some guys just like to talk like experts and shoot somethings down that they have no experience with, to make themselves appear to be an expert on the subject... but in this case, he has "bum-steered" you away from a very fine product. IMO.

nobody has steared me away from anything, as I stated in an earlier post I am still considering a Dlask barrel but was interested in the TS barrel mainly because of the light weight. I was also looking at the PWS barrel for its weight as well. One thing I do know is just because a bore looks rough doesn't mean it won't shoot. I have a Savage 204 and a Rem 300WM with factory barrels and they look very rough compared to the 3 shilen barrels I have but they are both very accurate rifles.

So I have decided on what to buy yet I did however notice the dlask 16 1/2 inch stepped barrel extreme. I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this particular barrel.
