Currently my 10/22 is sporting the Ruger OEM 18.5 inch sporter barrel.

I will be using my 10/22 mainly for rapid race gun shooting at target 0-100m Max.

My questions are these:

1. What length is recommend and why
2. Threaded or not threaded and why
3. Brand recommendation/Dealers and price point if know.

Thanks

I have put together several 10/22 s , i am a big fan of Dlask barrels (Canadian made) both 12" an 16 " have a look at them, they do come threaded which is just a plus in my opinion.
i havent tried one but i see Dlask is now offering carbon fiber barrels also . They have access to their website in the Dealers section.

To your last question, can offer 10/22 barrels in any format you can dream up. I have been developing specs for my LR PRS 10/22s and they have done very well for me. I have just started looking into 'speed' shooting ... ie rimfire steel challenge and CRPS version... more for something to do in the winter vs serious competition.

When chatting with those who are doing this game, their distances are very short.. inside 50yds so they typically run factory barrels. The size of targets are also very generous. If you are looking at smaller targets at longer distances and accuracy that your factory barrel can't deliver, then I have match barrel options what will shoot very accurately further out

If you have a specific game/course of fire, first I would look at the accuracy requirements vs function/reliability. Some accuracy specs can make things more sensitive to type of ammo used and function.

Then overall weight and balance. I would not see a really heavy rifle as being advantageous.

Can offer you a different 'tactical' contour which is heavier then a sporter but way less then the typical HB. I developed this when the 'AR' looking 10/22s were really popular. Similar contour to an M4 for diameter. Balanced very nicely and was lively in hand.

Not sure if I would bother with muzzle threads as a brake doesn't do much with a rimfire... but you can use it as a front weight to help balance the nose.

I would start by shooting the factory rifle and adding weight to the front of the barrel and see if it feels better or worst. That will tell you how to create a replacement barrel.

PM or email... happy to discuss.

Dlask has new lightweight carbon fiber barrels. I am a big fan if their regular 1022 barrels.
If I remember correctly, 16" is the point of diminishing returns in regards to velocity in the 22LR.
I really like my Dlask 12.5" medium barrels as they are easy to bring up to target and transition between and is about as short as you can go with an adjustable style stock.
Easy shooting for both me and the kids.

Anything is better then the OEM Ruger barrel. Tacsol make some lightweight barrels, a short Dlask will do the trick too. I have a 20" Green Mountain HB and it shoots great.

I have used the Butler Creek and Magnum Research aftermarket barrels over the years.
Still have and am using the carbon fiber Magnum Research barrels in 22LR and 17 Mach II. Both very accurate!

My top choice would be either Kidd or Tacsol 16" liteweight barrels for both balance and accuracy.

I don't care for HB longer then 16" as they are too heavy .

Currently have 16" Kidd and Tacsol liteweight
Shilen stainless 16" fluted
Ruger factory stainless 20" HB
Dlask 12.5" sporter contour

I haven't used an aftermarket barrel supplied by Jerry at Mystic Precision; however I can say dealing with him for other purchases is top shelf. Fast and knowledgeable response time for questions and fast shipping.

If you are not sure what you need or want, you would be well advised to have a discussion with him and get set up right for what you are trying to achieve

Good Luck!
