10/22 Aftermarket Bolt?

My thoughts as well. Other components I can justify buying a fancy version of if they are aesthetically pleasing, even if they don't serve a functional purpose like accuracy or reliability. But a bolt is largely internal and doesn't factor much into the looks of a gun.

If you replace the trigger and barrel, only the bolt is left. Most will change out the extractor... factory firing pin works until you wear it out.

As long as the factory bolt moves back and forth smoothly, gun goes bang and an empty flies out, what more can a bolt do? And if all this happens, then the receiver is doing all that it is designed to do. Exterior appearance doesn't confirm internal function.

If the goal is to improve the accuracy of a 10/22 as much as possible, there are definitely areas to spend your money on

So a gucci trigger and barrel on a rifle that's crap everywhere else? I suppose it needs to be ok enough to cycle, though. Or maybe I can go full-on flamboyant with the rest. Hmmm.

I would take everything with a grain of salt when the advice comes from those that prophet from their opinions. How can any part made out of superior materials on far superior equiptment to consistent tolerances not improve a firearm. Oh I guess all the companies that make aftermarket parts are crazy. If you dont think consistent ignition in a rimfire has a direct correlation to top accuracy then just ask any benchrest shooter. Theres a big difference between steel plates and bullets going thru the SAME hole on paper.

Understand what has an affect on holes in paper... then work back to the parts and set up that will make a difference.

the right set of specs and set up matters... whether it costs a little or alot... whether it comes in a fancy or humble box... it matters little to me.

Let your results on paper guide you.... they most certainly do for me

I've already upgraded to a Kidd trigger group and bolt, so a barrel should be the next big investment. There are a bewildering array of offerings from the US, and in Canada we seem to have IBI, Dlask, and Grey Birch making some respectable ones. But we see Jerry and his McGowen barrels with some really small groups! I have to suspect this has more to do with Jerry being a far better and more experienced shooter than myself, but there must be reasons behind that choice of brand?

A properly speced 10/22 match barrel that is well installed and bedded is the heart of the performance. Then finding some ammo that works in harmony.. some are going to tuners to make this process alot less fussy.... and save lot of money testing better types of ammo

10rds at 50yds and the 315yds group is from a customer.....

Proper ignition is really important and I have seen an aftermarket bolt with longer then desired headspace... can be fixed but just because it cost more money, didn't make it better. Regardless of make or price, it has to fit and function properly.

PM or email if I can help with a barrel.

I'm a bit more of a tinkerer with too many projects already on the go. Was thinking about building my own rifle from parts, but need to do more research and spend a lot more range time with what I already have. Possibly I should go with something professionally assembled but I'm not there yet.
