I did the modification to my piece but it doesn't release all the time. Most of the time but not always. I held mine up to the image on the computer and it looks the same. How much can you file off before it is ruined ???

I have done about 6 of them and it works fine, i did have an after market to follow the 1st time.

When you remove the catch you need to create a slight curve and polish the edges, don't leave them rough or it will snag.

It just needs to be slightly concave where the bump was before. Also you can have issues if you're mag release is too tight. This can be fixed by sanding the sides of it. The bolt release should just fall down when you pull back the charging handle. Test with and without a magazine installed. You can remove quite a bit of material before its ruined.

I'll try a bit more and see. I put a extended mag release in as well, but I think the BC stock is a bit tight in the mag well. The factoty mags seem to drop about 50 % of the time.

I just had a bit more to take off the bolt release and file the inside of the mag well and everything works great. Cool mod. Certainly worth a few mins. of time. Thanks for the replies. :cheers:

Care to explain, I think the the factory could have done a better job to start with. I don't know if they have corrected this problem ,but they should.

Please elaborate... 'cause I find putzing with the bolt release a much bigger and frustrating waste of time myself.

The question is, why are you f*cking with the bolt hold open in the first place? Aside from that, the factory lever is simple to operate with one hand if you feel you need to use it.

Time = 10 minutes.
Energy = 12 calories.

You're right, little time and little energy required, for a zero gain in performance.

It allows the bolt to release much easier and faster after you have emptied a magazine...how is that "nothing"?

Go here and you can see a pic of how much can be removed without ruining it.
There are a very few who like the release the way it is, I'm not one of them, I think it's a big improvement.

Seeing as how the bolt doesn't hold open on last round. That makes this mod useful only if you manually locked the bolt open. Question I have is why anyone would want to lock the bolt back as a regular action.
