Is the barrel band necessary? I read somewhere that it was not needed. I pulled mine off but the barrel wiggles a little bit, so Im not sure. Just thought I would get some input?

The stock would look kinda weird without it no? aftermarket barrels and stocks dont used them but are designed to be free floating.

if you like the look without the band, get a aftermarket barrel and stock and change the whole look and feel of your gun. (easy to change out) That's the best thing about the 10-22, highly customizable.

I guess I forgot to mention where I was going with this. I plan on getting a stock and barrell down the road, but money wise, its a little ways away. Why Im asking is because I want to put a bipod on the rifle, I was looking at one that attaches to a swivel bolt. I would have to install the swivel bolt, but I think with the barrel band, the bipod would be set back too far (at least for my liking.)

Y'all should read the sticky up at the top of the forum on the 10/22.

Figure that barrel tuner would be worth anything with a barrel band on it? Nope.

Just cosmetic.

So do I need to bed the barrell then? I have a synthetic stock.

So if I get rid of the band, the little bit of play is okay??

OK.

Maybe this will clear things up. Or not.

How many versions of the 10/22 has Ruger sold, that do not have barrel bands?

After that, everything is optional, based on how it shoots.
