10/22 barrel crown disaster and rebirth

Hello all,
This past weekend, a friend of mine dropped my 10/22, muzzle down onto the ground. Now in most cases this would mean a visual check of the bore and simply cleaning what ever dirt managed to get into the muzzle. Unfortunately in this particular event he managed to drop the muzzle onto the only freaken piece of re-bar within a 20 mile radius. Needless to say the muzzle has been damaged beyond simple hand tool recrowning.

Instead of just recrowning the original setup I would like to go a step further and recontour the muzzle so I can afix my biathalon sight. This particular biathalon sight protects the muzzle two ways. It has a flip up muzzle cover and extends past the end of the barrel by 1". The flip up cover blocks the sight picture so you have to flip it down or you cannot see what you are shooting at. It also has a spirit level which helps maintain proper alignment of the rifle to the target.

I would need the barrel parted off just behind the stock sight, the new muzzle brought down to a 15/32" OD for 3/4" length ending in a 90 degree shoulder. I would recrown the finished product myself.

Any idea what a gunsmith would charge for this simple operation?

Are there any home shop, lathe owning, beginner gunsmiths in the Ottawa area on this forum?

Thanks for you interest and any input you may have.

If you just want it parted off behind the sight and turned down at the end,you pay the shipping both ways and i'll do it for nothing.
it's a standard barrel right? not a heavy barrel i hope

That an open invite?
I have a 64b and a Model 60 that could use it before I Parkerize them this winter.

Well i found this image of a pro job:

So i grabbed my old CIL (which needs a re-blue anyways)and pulled the barrel, and gave it a go.
So this is what i'll do on your barrels, just a simple set in 11 degree..
My camera sucks..but you get the idea

Craftex B1979 mini lathe, decent for doing crowns but heavy barrels won't fit...but i did that 10/22 job on a huge old Tos at school

I kept speeding up the lathe as i went in to give it that pattern of whittaker rings as an experiment, had to cut it twice to get them even but i think that gives it a nice touch. You're gonna parkerize it so i could try it out

Glad you like it, and thank god canada post didn't lose that thing

I like the rings. Looks very cool.
Canada Post shows again how incompetant they are! 7 days for express post!
At least the shipping is free now.
I'll post a pic of the finished gun, when I get it done.

Thanks again.
