I'm trying to remove the barrel off my 10-22 to put a 16in. Dlask target on. Any ideas how to safely remove this stuck on original. Can't turn or pull it off by hand strength alone and don't want to damage anything.

When I did mine I just used the bolt like a hammer . Just pull back and let go a few times. Not really a skilled gunsmith but it worked

Don't smack it too hard. It's an aluminum receiever and easily ####ed up. Put the whole thing in the freezer and the expansion/contraction will make it much easier to remove the barrel.

Since aluminum contracts more than steel, maybe hit the receiver with a hair dryer or other heat source. Dunk it in boiling water even. No torch unless you really are sure what you are doing! The steel will shrink but the aluminum will shrink more, in the cold. Costs nothing to try though.

Factory install ? Are they using goo of one sort or another, or did someone do a Lock-Tite job on it?

Cheers
Trev

I used the rubber mallet technique recently when installing a 12" Dlask. Just a couple of taps at the part of the receiver just under the barrel. I can't see this causing any damage. Just some black rubber marks I had to buff out.
