Hey guys,

Anyone have any suggestions for a 10/22 aftermarket bull barrel available in Canada? Not looking to import from the states and go through the paperwork. I've heard great things about the Tactical Solutions barrels but figured I'd see if there was anything else out there.

Does anyone have any experience with the Adaptive Tactical barrels? Or any other brands available north of the border?

Thanks!

I've owned a variety of aftermarket 10/22 barrels over the years including: 3 Dlask, 1 Green Mountain, 2 Adaptive Tactical, 1 McGowen, 1 Volquartsen, 2 Kidd...
I highly recommend Kidd barrels over all the other makes that I have tried. They are number one in both accuracy and reliability. The proprietary Kidd chamber is hard to beat in my opinion. I have bought all my Kidd barrels used on the EE, but if you are looking for new - Dlask is a Kidd dealer and carries the 20" Bull and 16" ultralight Kidd barrels. If they are out of stock (which they often are) it is well worth the wait.

To address your specific question regarding Adaptive Tactical barrels; mine were both TD barrels. My 9" AT Charger barrel is very good (far superior to the Dlask 8", sporter chamber), the 16" AT barrel was a disappointment (less accurate than the 9" AT) and was quickly sold.

I have used dozens of barrels from many of the top manufacturers, including E.R.Shaw, Volquartsen, Kidd, TacSol, Green Mountain, Beyers, Fedderson, Mossberg custom and Shilen... I imagine that I am forgetting some. I have no experience with Adaptive Tactical barrels, unless that is the brand that FAB Sports carries, I ordered one from them one time and shipped that piece of shyte straight back. IMO your best bet in Canada is Kidd, Volquartsen and Dlask. The Kidd barrel is twice the cost of the Dlask for about a 5% improvement in overall performance (ish)... so it depends on where your priorities are... if you want the best then pay the money... if you want an excellent barrel at an excellent price, then Dlask is your boo.

Thanks! That was really insightful. I've had quite a hard time finding some unbiased opinions on certain barrels aswell as a significantly smaller available market as a pose to the U.S. I was looking at Dlask for a while but I think my vanity (want of a fluted barrel) kept me from looking too seriously.

I was actually looking at TD barrels originally, which led me to Adaptive Tactical, but decided to build my standard 10/22 instead.

Dlask has fluted barrels...

Last I checked Dlask uses Green Mountain barrel blanks. I bought a GM blank off Josef years ago for my 597. Green Mountain blanks are decent quality; it's at least as accurate as my factory barrel. I also used a GM blank for my 308 and it's as good as the Savage barrel.

I purchased a Lilja from Alberta Tactical and it’s defi better than my KIDD or Dlask but twice the price
But not twice the accuracy. I think the KIDD is the best for the money.

Decided I'll be going with either Dlask or Kidd. It'll likely come down to having the patience for the Kidd barrel to come back in stock over at Dlask.

If my impatience does get the better of me. I think I'll be going with the 16.5" Dlask barrel. Seems like people have had some good experience and in all likelihood is more than enough for me right now. Any of you run the XB-5 linear comp? Thought about it as a 'cool factor' addition.

I have a 16.5" fluted Dlask barrel with the x-treme chamber. It seems to like CCI standard velocity the best so far, with SK Standard plus a close second. Haven't tried any pricier stuff though. I put the XB5 linear brake on it more because it looked better than a plain thread protector. No problems with cleaning, although all I do is run the occasional wet patch on a lenght of weed whacker line through it.

Auggie D.

I'll likely get the comp as a pose to the thread protector if I do end up with a Dlask barrel. If only for the cool factor.

Is there significant difference in the sporter chamber and the bentz chamber? If I'm looking for a noticeable increase in accuracy am I better off going with a bentz chamber? I've been looking around and have read that the sporter chamber is comparable to a stock chamber. As such, is it worth the investment?

The Sporter chamber is still an accurate chamber, but with the right ammo, the tighter Bentz (style) chamber is potentially more accurate... I have had several of both from Dlask... the Bentz may require some finicky tuning... first not all ammo will feed and extract well, also the tighter chamber will foul more often requiring cleaning, or you will end up with stovepipes and FTE's... but when you find the right combination, you can have accuracy that rivals solid bolt action bench rigs... the question is, are you prepared for that frustration and all the tinkering? If not, just go for the Sporter chamber and try shooting CCI SV's... you will likely find that they are very good.
