10/22 Barrel Swap

HI all!

I'M looking to modified my ruger 10/22 and I need some information first.

1- Does the 11.5 barrel form Fabsport will fit my original stock and if not does anyone know the this barrel size?

2- Is that the barrel can use standard ammunition like WinDynapoint without trouble.

Most barrels can use the same ammunition. Usually problems cycling ammunition in .22 semi autos are problems with the trigger group or the receiver, not the barrel.

Because the barrel is a bull barrel, it will not fit your original factory stock (you have the wood stock, correct?) without modification. The barrel band will not fit either. The problem is that the barrel you are looking at is thicker, and therefore will not fit in the original stock.

This thicker barrel is, however, far more accurate.
 
Check to see if its a bull bbl. (0.920). You would need to mod the receiver, or simpler to replace. Also, I think the 11.5 inch bbl. will give you around the 26 inch overall length, measure carefully!

ahh sorry ,but you do not need to mod the receiver to replace the factory barrel with a .920 barrel . as for the factory wood stock you would need to widen the barrel channel , I used to just use a dowel wraped in sandpaper and had at it , or just replace the stock
 
What ammunition cycles the most reliably is a matter of trial. Sometimes a perfectly good brand just seems to cause more problems than another.

yes, my bad, i meant to say stock, and yes, the broomstick, sandpaper trick.
 
I ended up using one of my extended sockets; I attached the sandpaper to the sockets using the same tape you get with window plastic kits. Using an extended socket gives you a range of different sizes to choose from.

Quick question regarding the .920" bull/target barrels; do they all feed standard ammo just fine or must some be fed match ammo? I've heard of a bentz chamber, will this feed standard stuff?

if it is a target chamber it should feed all LR ammo EXCEPT for the CCI stingers as they do have a longer case than the LR
 
I just got my new ###y SS barrel and I am not able to fix it in the receiver.
The dimensions of the original barrel are not the same as the new one.

Original barrel: 0.924 & 0.686
New barrel: 0.922 & 0.690

so 0.004 bigger

This means that the barrel did not fit because the hole get too small. So what is the best solution?
Is it possible to put the receveir in the oven to expand the alloy?
Should I slightly sand the hole with sanspaper ?

Maybe its time to get a new receiver...

did you Mic the receiver hole ? mabey the factory one just had a bit more clearence?
 
Finaly I put the reciever in the oven at 200F and the barrel in the freezer. After 3 try the barrel fit the hole tightly perfect.

I cut the front of the original stock and sand the barrel channel. After that I paint all the stuff with Krylon. For a first custom rifle I'M happy.

looks great ... so how did you find it removing the old barrel ive been thinking of doing similar things and heard thats not as easy (removing the barrel) as it looks .and did you strip the finish off the old reciever be:fore painting ..... thanks:D
 
Removing the barrel are realy easy. After removing hex bolt the barrel become loose. The tricky part it when I put the new barrel in. For the paint job I just wash the reciever without stripping the finish. THe same for the scope but the stock I sand it all just because I wanted a rude finish.

I just tried the weapon to make sure it is working properly. For now everything looks good. When I tried the gun more carefully I would give you some news. However, my trials at 10 meters seemed to conclude.

The new barrel is tighter than the original in the bullet channel.

I apologize, I don't really follow..does it shoot OK or worse or ???? I realize the barrel is tighter in the stock, does that affect your groups at all?

What does the 10 meter groups conclude exactly?

I'm pretty satisfied of my group for now. I have no cheek piece yet on my stock and I shoot under parallax free at 20 meter so it was harder to me to get consistency. My result proven me that the rifle is better than me. But what's make me really happier is that my new barrel is better quality and gives me better result. :D

For Chala: The barrel is tighter in the receiver but not in the stock barrel channel because I sand it before.

About this modification, the barrel is now under 470mm so should I call Miramichi to change my FRC ?

Does it have someone here that sell kidex cheek-piece ?
