So i just acquired a new barrel for my 10/22 build and it drops in with almost no friction at all to one of my receivers and there is noticeable wiggle in another.

Most of the other barrels i have fit to either receiver have been snug enough to require tapping with a mallet.

Is this aomething to worry about? Shud i just thread lock the v block bolts?

Can the tenon be thickened at all? Maybe with a few coats of paint.

Any ideas or am i making this all up in my head ??

Sounds like quite the sloppy fit. What receiver/barrel is it?

You could try one of the adjustable V-blocks from SBI or Dlask. They have a set screw that you can tighten from beneath to counteract the droop..

Adjustable Vblock is just for barrel droop. It will do little for your sloppy fit. As suggested by 357M I would shoot it and then decide how to proceed.

what is the barrel and receiver combination that is so sloppy? Do you know what they measure? All my 10/22 barrel receiver combos fit too tight.

knurling or peening the barrel shank would increase the diameter

Ballistic advantage barrel
SBI receiver
Dlask adjustable V-blok

Can’t speak to the BA barrel but I’ve found SBI receivers (had two of them) to be a looser fit than say the DLask receivers.
However, I’ve not had a fit quite as loose as what you’re describing.

A quick google brings back mixed opinions on the BA 10/22 barrels. Might be poor tolerances on the barrel tenon. Do you have another barrel on hand to check fit with the SBI receiver?

The SBI receivers also have a set screw on top of the receiver which can be tightened from above to snug against the barrel. With the set screw above and the set screw below from the adj. v block, plus tightening up of the v block screws, hopefully should keep the barrel in place where it needs to be.

Get it all snuggled up nice and tight. Check the headspace, and slam the bolt home a few dozen times to check for any movement. If all looks fine, go shoot a few rounds, but keep an eye for any loosening or backing out of barrel…

I have a BA 8" straight fluted barrel on a Ruger reciever and it was snug but not tight. No thermal fitting or anything required. Haven't had a chance to use it yet but happy with the overall fit and finish.

BA barrel and Ruger reciever is a tighter fit than my ST-22 reciever and Dlask barrel. Neither were tight enough to need to be tapped with a mallet and slid in by hand.

Is there still play/slop once the v-block has been tightened

Update;
100 rds thru it so far.
Just took it out and snugged up the two set screws mentioned.
The v block bolts were still snug.
Im pretty happy with how it shoots and cycles so there ya go.
One of the best priced 10/22 barrel optiona out there.

Might need more brands of receiver and barrel and match up what fits. Nothing quite like a selection of Franken10/22 to pick from when you're going plinking!
