Hello all;

I'm looking for some options on mounting a bipod on my 10/22 with a synthetic stock. I can't find anything with the search function, or google.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

No I don't have a sling mount, I just have the barrel band. I've heard tell of some sort of adapter for the barrel band.

You can just get a barrel mounted bipod and won't have to worry about having nothing to mount it to.

I have used one of these. Didn't really like it.

What I ended up doing is putting a regular sling swivel stud in the stock just far enough back that the barrel band didn't affect it.

I don see why you couldn't do the same thing with a synthetic stock. You just may have to put a washer on the inside.

Thanks for the help guys. I was thinking of both those options. What are the cons of going with a barrel mounted bipod? I may end up just taking it down my local shop and seeing what they can come with.

I wouldn't mount the bipod to the barrel, as that transmits the forces you apply to the stock to the barrel and possibly distort the point of impact. Drill a hole and install a swivel stud. The kind that have a 10-32 machine screw would probably work best. You can get them cheaply at the gun store in a pack with one machine screw and one wood screw (Uncle Mikes?).

huh, funny this should come up...... I bought a swivel stud kit for my 10/22 on saturday from my local g-store. it came with 2 studs and 2 sling swivels........ It only cost 9.99 + tax...... I installed it Sat. evening and took it out for gophers on Sun. worked great!..... I used it for the sling, not a bipod, but I have 2 harris bi-pods on other guns, so it would be a quick changout.

Cheers!

I added the sling studs to my syn stock with no big problems. It was fairly easy and the studs hold up to all regular sling wear.

Got the stud kit for $5 at a local gun shop.

Notsorichguy, and Onagoth; any issues with drilling the holes? I've picked up a little "bench/barrel bag", but this obviously isn't very ideal for field use.

I drilled holes slightly smaller than the screw/bolt. The bolt which goes in the fore end of the stock had to be trimmed down though because it contacted the barrel. I just used a hacksaw and a vice.

I guess thats the trouble........ it seems easy, just don't drill your holes to big!! I am sure someone out there has a horror story to tell!

FYI I used my dremel to cut off the front "screw" mine was too long as well. I found that if you drilled the hole on the inside of the barrel channel a little tight you may not have to "glue" in the "nut" that the front swivel post goes into.......

Good luck

x2, I didn't use any glue, a moderate amount of pressure while screwing in the bolt was all it took to keep it solidly in place
