So I went on line to look for a book about the 10/22. Turns out there are a bunch. I am looking for something that shows how to strip it down and also maybe gets into upgrades and modifications that can be done. Can anyone recommend a good book or DVD?

you probably really don't need a book. the 10/22 is a very simple setup.

if you haven't taken one apart before, make sure it's unloaded (DUH!), remove the magazine, remove the barrel band (if equipped), put the safety in "neutral", loosen the takedown screw and lift the barreled action up barrel first.

to take the trigger group out, just remove the two pins and it's out.

to remove the bolt, start with the barreled action upside down, pull the charging handle all the way back, lift the chamber end up and lift the bolt out.

before you take the trigger group apart examine it, make note of how everything works and where everything goes. i wouldn't reccomend taking the safety apart.

you can probably find videos on youtube that show you most of this. there are step by step instructions around somewhere that have a parts list referenced.

the biggest caution is the reciever is just aluminum, so be careful tightening anything that threads into it.

if you still really want a book, i would check cabelas, brownells or even a local sport store. there is alot of good info out there on the 10/22 and the internet has more up to date stuff than any book you'll read.

best of luck!

1Way go to "youtube" and look up Ruger Firearms Channel there you will be able to find all the info you need to strip and clean your 10/22.

The channel is posted by Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. so its not the usual some guy with a camera video.

Just an FYI.....you need to remove the bolt stop pin first before pulling back the bolt for removal.
If you don't, it'll be really tough to remove and you just might damage the internals of the receiver. ;)

heh, quite difficult indeed! i started that sentence with remove the bolt stop, but then went back to start by turning the reciever over, and forgot about the bolt stop.

There is lots of stuff on Youtube. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I am going to 86 the book idea.
