10/22 Build or Buy?

I know we get hosed as Canadians, more ways than one, but I just did a quick Google on that rifle,{never heard of it} 1st linked was an American/ USA Gun Shop-in stock, for $499. Then, a sponsors listing showed up = $1129 lol. Dang. I guess there is 25% tariffs now? {Exchange + Tariffs on Retail price = $870 Canadian}
I'd try IRG, see what they have it for.

Ya I’ve seen the price difference is crazy. I’m not sure if it’s the distributors fault or the retail stores that have the price so high. I will check IRG for sure. I’ve seen they can bring in what I believe is the factory 16” carbon barrel from ruger. Which might be my only option that I’ve been able to find.

That Magpul stock is pretty light weight. I have one with a factory receiver and a Faxxon pencil barrel and from memory is just under 5lbs.
Feels like a toy but sure is handy little rifle.
For a lightweight plinker/hunter factory 10/22 is fine. If you wanna do a bench or PRS type then is better to build one up.

That 31220 looks like a solid package for the money, especially if that barrel is decent.
My 10/22 wouldn't shoot better than 4 moa (which Ruger wouldn't warranty) so I swapped it out for a Kidd ULW barrel (followed by a BX trigger, then a stock, bolt, all that remains stock now is the action haha) That Kidd barrel shoots everything well, and with match ammo it's not terribly far behind my 457 MTR for accuracy

For giggles I priced out a build comparable to that factory Ruger, using an ULW barrel.
$450 for a 10/22 carbine donor (BassPro), you can probably recoup some money by selling the factory stock and barrel. A Spectre Ballistics C71 reciever, bolt, charging handle etc would be similar in price to a basic donor rifle.
$160 for the Magpul MOE X-22 stock (BP)
$150 for a BX trigger (BP)
$550 for a Kidd ULW barrel (Can Safety Source)
$1310 total vs $1130 (before taxes, shipping) for a Ruger 31220 from Canada's Gun Store (1st vendor I found that had the rifle in stock)

I'd wager a silver dime that the Kidd barrel would out-shoot the factory Ruger CF barrel, but $280 extra before taxes and shipping isn't insignificant. I'd personally spend the extra money on building off a donor, but that's because I lack faith in Ruger barrels. If I knew those carbon barrels shot well I'd hit the easy button and save $300.

In my opinion the only real reason I would/did opt to get a 10/22 is the modularity. It’s fun to build them.

If a factory purchase was what I was after, any of the 10/22’s wouldn’t be my first pick
