10/22 building , options and opinions please

I'm not necessarily after the lightest weigh rifle, I want a bull barrel because they are stiffer and therefore inherently more accurate than a skinnier barrel made of the same material. I'm a machinist and know what dissimilar metals do when in contact with each other, and that is where the aluminum barrel with chromoly liner appeals to me. Also the lighter and shorter the barrel, the less chance for droop there is. These are a couple things that are going through my head with the barrel selection. I'll most likely get the dlask bolt and handle. We for the trigger, not sure yet, 300 for the kid trigger is pricey, but I'm not really holding back on this 10/22. Buy once cry once is something I try to live by.

barrel droop isnt too much of an issue unless you go with a 20" bull barrel. the fit between a high quality custom receiver and target barrel is generally so tight that you dont even need the vblock to hold it together. you would probably even fire a few rounds before it worked loose. the fit is so tight its incredible. also, the difference between bull barrels and tapered isnt a big deal on 10/22's. if you are talking about a 27"-32" barrel for a .338, .416, or .50 it makes a huge difference. however, even 'long' 10/22 barrels are actually short. if you can find a 12"-16" tapered barrel you will be more than fine. they will heat up faster than a bull barrel will but that requires a LOT of fast shooting. a few days ago i was doing some rapid fire shooting at 25 yards and even after putting 200 rounds through my bull barrel it was only what i would describe as warm. i could hold it right up near the chamber and it wasnt even uncomfortable. even heat isnt a large concern. if you want a bull barrel for the look go ahead. but it wont make too much of a difference in accuracy. the ammo and your shooting will have MUCH more to say about it than a bull barrel will. unless you are trying to shave 0.05" off of a 5 shot group at 50 yards dont worry about it.

and if money isnt as much of an issue you will not have a single person who owns one ever complain about a kidd trigger or regret the purchase. the only people who have anything negative to say dont own one. for anything off the bench and light to moderate bench use go with the single stage. for a full bench gun you cant go wrong with the 2-stage set to 3oz/3oz. for comparison the single stage is 1.5lbs and the ruger standard one is like 6-8lbs. also, going with the full kidd triggers gives you more reliable primer ignition. the hammer hits the firing pin with almost twice the force of a standard trigger pack. no more light strikes to screw up shots.

Thanks for clearing up some of my misconceptions, kid trigger it is, still on the fence with barrel selection lol, I love the look of a bull barrel, can't deny that. I definitely want a pretty rifle as well Haha, the reciever is cerekoted od green and I had nice colour scheme picked out that probably won't work well with a Cf barrel, I might end up with the kid superlight barrel yet, and I can just get everything from dlask to make things simpler

dlask does have a couple choices listed on the website. both are probably about the same weight. the dlask barrel is just shorter, blued, and cheaper. the kidd one is longer, black or stainless, fluted, and much more expensive. if you like the look of the bull barrel and want a ###y gun (and price isnt an issue) go with the kidd.

My custom build was fun.. it's a very accurate rifle and I love it. The Scope on the rifle is a Tasco in this pic. I'll be sure to post up new pics once the receiver and bolt & new scope get installed.

I have enough spare parts seeing how I've changed pieces out a few times, that all I need to build another rife is a stock.....

manufacturers CLAIM that they improve accuracy because they vent exhaust gasses away from the bullet as they exit the bore. i dont know how much faith i put in that. if you have a good barrel with a proper crown it shouldnt be an issue. they dont really do anything at all for recoil. first, its a .22 and there is hardly any at all. second, there isnt the volume of gas you would have on the larger calibers for the compensator to work with. i got one for the look and to do some testing. when i can get to a proper shooting bench when its warmer im going to do tests with and without. once again, if you like the look might as well do it. but it isnt necessary. if people could prove that they improved accuracy 100% of bench shooters would have one (and the opposite is actually true. hardly any do).

those 2 are totally different barrels

the TacSol is an aluminum barrel with a Chromoly inner where as the Whistle Pigs are aluminum with a 4140 liner.
weight looks to be the same, whistle pigs lists theirs at aprox 1 oz per inch and the tac sol is 15 oz for their barrel (at 16.5").

biggest difference i can see is that the TacSol is $295 US per and they only come in 16.5" with or without threaded barrel.
where the Whistle Pig you can get 16.5/18/18.5/20/22 with or without threading and with or without a built in comp and the prices go from $199-$248 USD and come in pretty much any color under the sun.

personally ive only shot the TacSol as that is what i had handy to me at the time but if i was doing it again id go with the Whistle Pig just for the variety of color and length coupled with the lower price.

from what i have heard the TacSol chambers arent the greatest a lot of time time. i have seen a few reports of good accuracy from them but many more reports of sub par accuracy considering the competition and price. this is from doing extensive research online (mostly from rimfire central).

Really? I have a dlask reciever/ tac sol/ hogue set up but it weights 4 lb 5oz empty with no optics.
I dont see how you can shave another pound or so off that weight while including ammo and a mag.

Get your scale out......lol

My bad 1.66kg = 3.65lbs loaded without trs-25
