I had an old OEM safe kissed and dimpled 10/22 wood stock that I wasn't sure what to do with.
After some consideration, I decided to try and make a nice 'N' light squirrel popin' bush gun.
:D

First, I took the stock and cut off flush the barrel band "nib" then cut back 1" from the front on a 45 degree angle.
I sanded the stock down as smooth as I could and reamed out the barrel channel to accept a .920" bull barrel

Next, I started to put hand rubbed coats of Casey Gun Stock oil mixed with a little mineral spirits (each coat was allowed to dry 24 hrs)
(This picture was taken after the first coat.)

After 6 coats, I measured/drilled the stock for sling & bipod studs and installed them.

Next, I installed the bipod, action and barrel.

After that, I finished up with the scope and a leather sling.

The rifle ended up being a VERY comfortable 6.2 lbs that can be carried all day with very little problem. :)

I personally dont see the point of having a bipod, large scope, and bull barrel for a bush gun, bush guns strike me as being light... Nice rifle and to each his own. I just feel an old Coeey or standard barreled synthetic stock 10/22 seems more suitable to me for a stroll through the woods.

Great work though!

Paint that stock black ad you got a 10/22 Target Tactical! LOL

Looks real good though! Is that 6.2 with the scope cuz mine is pretty heavy with a scope, and bipod! I plan to leave the bipod at home when I go into the bush thats for sure!

Thanks Gang...I appreciate the kind feedback :)

It's 6.2 the way she sits mlehtovaara. The stock was cut back with the barrel channel reamed out and the barrel is a Tac. Sol. aluminum, so the only real weight is the action, T/G, scope & bipod.

I took it out last night for a few test rounds sl66ICEcuba and did find that the strength of the scope was a little much. I have since reduced the size of the scope and it has reduced the overall weight even more.(will post pics) The bipod can be removed easily enough if need be, but with that option available, it also makes the rifle more "multi-purpose" in case I every wanted to switch to silhouette or bench.

get rid of the bi-pod and get a reddot then you have something you can use in the bush

I associate a red dot sights as more tactical than anything, plus with bright sunshine or natural daylight, I personally find it REALLY hard to see the damn thing. I guess it all comes down to "what ever floats your boat"....:D

Where did you get the aluminum butt plate...or did you make it? Sweet-looking, all-around shooter for sure!

I'd echo what others have said about the weight/set-up for an all-around bush gun though, but hey...to each his own. I have a red dot on my 10/22 for just that reason, a 9X on my bolt action for bench rest. The barrel~well, I'm just a little jealous there. Looks pretty sweet.
