10-22 Cleaning Hole

Has anyone here done this so they can clean their 10-22 from the breach end? Is it a good idea? Why or why not? Please let me know your experience/opinions.

Tagged for interest.. My usual method has been doing "wet patch, wet brush 15x, dry patch" twice, get the boresnake through the correct way 5x, and finish off with "oily patch, 3-5 dry patches from the muzzle end". Only had to do it 2-3 times, every 1000rds or so.

yes, it's a great idea, makes for much easier cleaning. here's a link to the "tool" I got to drill the hole, works like a charm.

My 10/22's have been just been plinking guns so I almost never clean them at all.

Next build might be a precision build so cleaning might be more important then.

This. No drilling of holes or cleaning rods required. Follow up with oil and boresnake.
Although, a good cleaning really only happens once every year or so.

Didn't know I had to clean my .22's. I spray out the action and reoil but I don't see a need to clean the barrel.

Rimfire barrels shoot better fouled, you don't want to get them super clean.
Besides, you still have to take it out of the stock, and remove the bolt....if you are going to go through all that, you may as well just take the barrel off.
I use a boresnake first, then patch from the muzzle with a 1 piece rod, I'd rather leave the action in the stock with a 10-22 as removal will change poi a hair.

Cleaning your 10/22 is a very bad thing. Shoot them fouled as possible.

On my 10-22's (3 of them) I've never cleaned the barrel on any of the and they're all well over 50K each. The oldest I've had since 1984 and if it has les than 100K through it I'll eat my hat. Still never been cleaned (the barrel)...

I imagine shooting lots of lead ammo, as opposed to copper plated, would have some bearing on how long you could go before a leaded barrel would hinder performance. Or?

I use a bore snake on my .22lr rifles and a copper/brass brush on my semis and revolvers.

I have the takedown model, so cleaning the barrel is a breeze.

Maybe not really a good idea when you have a Bentz match chamber on a good barrel.

Why not just take the retaining block off, it's only two bolts, remove the barrel and clean it that way instead of drilling holes..?
