I'm new to 10/22's but plan to get one for rabbit hunting and occasional plinking. I like the thoughts of the 10/22 compact with the 16" barrel for the thickets where I rabbit hunt rather than the regular 18" model.
Question is, other than a shorter barrel what other differences are there between the compact model and the regular model. The compact also has a shorter stock as well no?

Will all the aftermarket parts available for the regular model fit the compact?

Right now the only mods I envision would be a possible stock upgrade and a better trigger. As I mentioned, only be used for small game hunting and occasional plinking.

Thanks,
AG

I don't see any worries about being too short down the road. I don't ever plan to tacticool the 10/22. No folders and such, simply a nice functional stock to replace the whittled 2X4 that they come with. I'm a fan of hogue over molded stocks and might look into one of those for the compact if they will fit. :)

I believe the Compact model has nicer factory sights as well (fiber optics).

If they were so great, my surplus one wouldn't still be sitting in the E & E... :p

There's plenty of things to "tacticool" aside from the stock - front rails, scopes, flash hider, the list goes on....:D

Cyclone:

I liked the fiber optic sights on my 10/22RR for its high visibility. It was very easy to line up accurate, quick shots consistently. The dots on those sights are pretty bloody huge though, and I found they pretty much obliterate the target when shooting over 50 yards using open sights.

That's what I have the AR15, M14 etc for;). No need to do it to a 22 meant for rabbit hunting and plinking once in a while. I simply think that the shorter barrel will be much handier when in the woods, getting in/out of vehicles when moving etc. This 22 will be primarily a small game hunting rig. Glad to hear that all parts/mods are compatable with the compact:)
