I've noticed a lot of aftermarket 10/22 barrels can come with a threaded end that people can attach coompensators to, a couple of questions firstly what do these compensators actually do ? Are they just for looks? Secondly are they legal in Canada? Or are they considered a silencer?

A compensator is legal, they come on most volquartsen aftermarket barrels. I have had 2 and have removed them.

They don't do a thing on a .22 LR. They only collect fowling and not make you want to shoot the rifle because the comp is a pain to clean.

They are not for recoil obviously - I have tested them and they do work for accuracy by stabilizing the bullet - (less , and more even destabilizing gas at the base of the bullet when it hits the air)
