Well my addiction continues. After changing the bolt catch, buffer and hammer....I just upgraded to a Magpul X-22 Hunter stock.

Changes the look and feel for the better. Now off to the range tomorrow:

What are the advantages/disadvantages when using a short barrel. The barrel is next and so far only item decided is that it will be a bull barrel

Depends on how you look at it, for pure target I suggest a longer barrel, a 12" is just fun, its shorter and in theory stiffer. One of the biggest things is usually a shorter barrel will decrease velocity slightly. Personal preference though. Go with what length makes you happy! In Canada we need to make 26" OAL of the firearm to stay NR, 12" should maintain that status with just about any stock.

What is the advantage to upgrading the hammer? Never heard of that mod.

Usually with a 10/22 its changing the hammer and sear together, the better fitting parts usually make the trigger a ton better and is less costly then going to something like a Timney or VQ trigger because your leaving behind the alloy trigger housing and such.

It gets to the point where you just take the Ruger 10/22 out of the build altogether and just build from scratch... I did a couple dozen of those when the kids were home and shooting with me... I lost interest when they grew up and flew the nest.

Advantage
- Looks cooler
- Less nose heavy (The 0.920" bull barrel at 16+ inches get's REALLY heavy)
- Bragging rights to our neighbours down south

Disadvantage
- Depending on ammunition, reduced muzzle velocity. But not by much. See link --> http://ballisticsbytheinch.com/22.html
- Not much options. Dlask is the only one I know who sells it.

The minimum barrel length for a stock LOP 10/22 non-restricted (26" OAL) is an 8" barrel. (Also sold by Dlask).

The shorties are a touch louder on your ears if your prone to the odd shot without ear-protection. This is because more powder is burning outside the muzzle.

Technically short bull barrels should be more accurate due to having practically zero barrel whip. But i cant tell, they all kill pop-cans with ease

My first post! I’m sure I’m posting in the wrong place (sorry about that, I need help!). Just bought a ruger 10/22 with Dlask 18” fluted stainless steel barrel and Boyd Varmint stock. I paid $500 used (is that a good price?). I called Dlask arms co, but they didn’t really seem to want to talk to me, so couldn’t ask them my questions, so I signed up to get some help here I hope with a couple questions.

First, are Dlask target Barrels really any good, are they accurate? Second, can I shoot any type of cci ammo through it? I’ve read different things about that?

You did fine getting a rifle with an upgraded stock and barrel for 500.00
Dlask are busy getting the new Tuff 22 and high capacity 10/22 mags to market. :) If you wish to use these , your reciever can be modified.
People like the Dlask barrels fine, They start life as Green Mountain Barrels.
I have heard of them referred to as second tier behind Kidd, and Volquartson.
CCI stingers have longer brass and are not recommended for some chambers.
Many peoples guns like cci mini mags, or cci standard velocity.
You could get some sand bags or a rest and check to see what ammo your gun likes.
Quality ammo prices vary, It can be had from 4.50 to 30.00 per 50 rounds.

Thank you very much!!! Your information was very helpful! It’s this type of help I was asking for :)

Thanks!!

Kidd Ultralight barrel!

Excellent accuracy, bull barrel profile, and very lightweight. Why not have a match quality bull barrel that weighs less than a pencil barrel? Even if you don’t care about weight, the lighter barrel will be much easier to shoot offhand.

When the time comes, I will keep that in mind

My Dlask 12.5" with a sporter chamber is better than I expected. Easy sub 1" groups at 50M (stock everything else) even with Winchester M22's (mid grade ammo).

When you say "Target Barrel", do you mean "Target Chamber"? It should say on the side of the barrel. From what I understand, the Target Chamber is slightly tighter than the Sporter Chamber. If that's the case you can only run target/match grade ammo reliability, bulk/lower grade ammo can be fired but will fail to feed from time to time.

Thanks for the info: it says “target” on the side of the barrel, that’s all I know. That would be great if it’s only a feeding issue, I can deal with that! I saw some pictures Online where the back of the casing had exploded and would’ve send material out of the chamber at the side of the gun. The poster explained that it was because the bullet hadn’t fully seated itself, but it was still able to be fired. They said it was because the casing was too large...

A little feeding problem is no big deal to me! Thanks for the help!
