I have a customized ruger 10/22 that constantly fails to eject the spent casing. The bolt won't fully eject the spent casing before picking up a new one and jams the spent casing into the bolt face. I keep the gun very clean and clean the chamber regularly to no avail. Barrel is a volquartsen stainless match barrel, I have also upgraded to a volquartsen extractor, the rest of the bolt is factory. What do I do next?

My stock 10/22 only had one failure but my choice of ammo has been high velocity Remington T-Bolt, CCI MiniMags, Blazer.
Most failures that I have seen was with SV. With CCI SV the paper box has a more waxy lube while the plastic tray variety is vastly different.

If that Match Barrel has Match chamber in it try Match grade ammo they can be very picky and wont run most bulk or average cheap .22 ammo.

I’ve got a custom Kidd Supergrade that has had FTE issues ONLY with match ammo (Eley). Go figure

did you put the barrel on yourself?
maybe have a quick check and make sure your extractor cut in the barrel is lined up with your extractor.
quick and easy thing to check.
just look in from the the bottom of the gun where the mag goes, cycle the bolt forward and check to make sure the extractor goes into the cut with no issues.

if thats good then take your gun apart and check the extractor function.
take it out and inspect, make sure nothing is gumming it up.

if thats good then replace it with a aftermarket higher end one.

hopefully that you running.

It may be one or several things. Bolt timing, ejector, magazine seating or a combination thereof. The charging handle/ bolt return spring may be to stiff for the ammunition you use, it may have a worn or damaged ejector and make sure the magazine is seated properly. The extractor is only for removing a live round when clearing the chamber so I would not bother looking at that first.

I am having this exact same issue on my 10/22 with kidd supergrade barrel. It seems to get worse the more I shoot. Cci standards, eley, and rws all FTE. The gun is clean, extractor lines up and is in great shape. I have a kidd trigger also, I thought maybe the reset was set too light, but I adjusted and it made no difference. Is this just something we have to deal with with a match chamber? I am currently about to try a different trigger group, lighter bolt spring. And Ill maybe try cleaning the bore every 50 rounds or so. Could a heavier return spring be the culprit?

Bit of an update. The barrel was put on by a shop in Alberta. Extractor is in perfect shape and functions properly, ejector was also recently replaced. The gun has a match chamber but still has failures to eject with match ammo (eley and sk), I have ordered a new charging handle with different weighted return springs. Hopefully this works!

ok, so the bolt and extractor ARE pulling the spent casing out of the barrel?
the spent casing is staying on the bolt face and not being flung out?
or is the spent casing just being dropped in the chamber and then gumming up the works?

The extractor usually removes the spent casing from the chamber but it stays on the bolt face. If the chamber gets dirty (shooting a hundred rounds) the casing will often stick in the chamber but that it fixed by swabbing the chamber. The gun will also occasionally not recock the hammer when firing.
