Is there anything I can do other than ordering the extractor with FTE in Ruger 10/22 ? Frost 50-75 rounds are fine and then at least one stove pipe out of 5-8 rounds. Polished the bolt, polished the receiver. What else ?

I do not think it is ammo. I use Federal bulk. It had no problem until last few trips. It become really bad - about 1 out of 5. I polished it and the problem disappeared for the first 75 rounds. May be something with heating or dirt ?

Rifles tend to be picky over the type of ammo used. We can eliminate a few things though.. How often do you clean the barrel/action? Is your takedown screw tight?

My 10/22 is picky like that. If I use 38grain hollows it will do that. It works perfect with the 40 grain round nose.

I clean after every trip. Screw is tight.

Ok, you can clean your action, but leave the barrel alone. If you search up 10/22 cleaning habbits you will notice some people don't clean until they start having issues (several thousand rounds)..

Otherwise, try other ammo and see what happens

Other ammo is where I would go

I have a Kidd extractor in my 10/22 and it works flawlessly...Volquartsen extractors have the same perfect reputation.
If you look at a pic of either one of them next to a factory Ruger extractor, you'll see why it's a well spent $10.

Every 10k or so rounds I remove my extractor and give it a quick deburing, before I started doing this I had a string of FTE since I started next to none

Brownells, VQ extractor for $10 if you're military or police, or were...and the VQ hammer for $33, which reduces your trigger pull by quite a bit!

Brownells is $11.99 and $10 shipping...

You are spot on about VQ hammer. Improved the pull dramatically. Too bad I did not order an extractor at a time...

It's less if you specified when you registered that you're a cop or soldier...but who cares about a twonie, lol? I'd get the VQ hammer at the same time
and anything else you need so the shipping isn't a major factor.
Just checked again, with LEO/military discount the VQ ejector is $9.99, a penny less than I'd stated, and the
VQ hammer is $33.10. Close enough to $10 and $33 for my friends, lol...
