I tried to use the search for this but had no luck...

I got tech sights for my Ruger 10/22 and am very happy with them. Anyone who is familiar with the way the rear aperture installs knows that it takes up the back half of the area that the Ruger stock scope mount base occupies and two of the four screw holes.

My problem is I want to get the sights sighted in and lock-tite them so they will be on the gun all the time, but I also want to have the option of using a red dot scope. I have looked at the sizing and I definitely could cut down the stock scope mount base and have both the red dot and the tech sight rear aperture on the gun at the same time. However, I am not a very skilled metal grinder and I know the job I would do would be practical but ugly.

I'd like to find a manufactured one for less than 30 bucks. A search on the net revealed this:

http://www.mountsplus.com/miva/merchant.mvc?page=MSP/PROD/1022_Scope_Mounts/SLR-1022-BS

I don't know this site and they don't take (FRAUD ALERT), so I don't really trust them with my credit card. Has anyone ordered from them? Does anyone know of another website or store that carries a half size scope mount base for the 10//22?

I was thinking about the same. What about the 2 piece mounts for bolt action rifles? Would one of them work?

I looked at them but I found they are too small for my particular red dot, as it takes up a little less than half of the stock Ruger scope base.

Any follow-up on this?

I really don't feel like giving out my credit card to an unknown website so I'm going to try and grind the Ruger scope base myself.

I'm probably not going to be able to get to it for a little while as I'm busy right now with work but I'll post pictures when I'm done.

In Gun Digest 09, one author used a R.A.M. accessory mount and basically from what I can tell installed it backwards so it extended over the barrel a bit and left the tech-sights alone. With a hand guard on, it looked pretty good.
Can't find any pictures of it though, just in the book.

Any pics of the mount in question?

Nothing special looking,

Cutting down a 10/22 base would be easy for my friend(maybe myself) to do. And except for the exposed metal, would probably look good too. Maybe I'll do it later and take pics installed with tech sights also mounted.

I have a red dot on the way, I plan on testing it on the 10/22 without removing the tech sights.
So we'll see how I do that.

If I like it, it may end up on my m1 carbine.

i recall a guy on RFC that had a setup similar to what you have in mind. he could co-witness the red dot though the tech sights. pretty cool... just saying.
The scope base is NOT staying there. It wiggles. It's just a test.
Camo is the last one they had in stock,
and ordering one in black would of costed 50% more.
