10/22 help

I have noticed that there is some side to side movement of the reciever in the stock on my 10\22. It is very slight but there is definatly some movement. The screw holding the reciever in the stock is tight. Is that amount of movement something to be concerned with? here is a pic, just in case my explaination is unclear. Any help would be apprieciated.

Not abnormal considering the whole action is only held in the stock with one screw......

another note: my buddy has a 10/22 with a wood stock and there is no movement in his, is there just more gap in the synthetic stock?

You could lightly bed the rear of the receiver to snug it up in the stock.......or if it's a new gun, take it back for warranty or replacement.....

I would glass bed the sides and rear of the stock (may as well do the barrel channel as well).

As gunsasaurus mentioned ruger's tolerances really are not that good...

I remember reading in my owners manual something about there not being an actual warranty for the Rugers. Sounded like we will check it out and talk about it but nothing formal. Seemed kinda weird at the time but I have had no problems and I own 3 Rugers. I was also told by a smith in the lower mainland that you couldnt bed the factory plastic stocks. True? or just not worthwile?

Perhaps not really worth while, but I do no0t see why you can't bed it.....if you want to, give 'er.....

Easiest fix would be to buy a new stock. I'd suspect the current stock has a pressure point somewhere (high point) which is acting like a pivot.

+1.......I'd do the front and back of the receiver and about an inch up/down from front/back

Bedding is a snap, check RFC for the procedure.

Just slip a couple strips of black electrical tape in the places with gaps. Bedding is really easy if you have the materials.

I would try shortening the hold down screw by a couple of threads.

If the screw is bottoming out against the barrel this could be causing the looseness. One way to check for this condition is to look for a shiny spot on the barrel which indicates that the screw is too long.
