Hey guys,

I really like the buttler creek 25 round mags, any thoughts on the ram-line 30 or 50 round mags... I hear they are junk, but 50 rounds is too fun not to check into. What are your opinions on them, and what about the tear shape drums, junk too? I forget who makes those...

Butler Creek " STEEL LIPS " ... not Hot lips are the only way to go.

No Jams , no issue's

I bieleve they call the other one's " Jam-line "

God awful. You have to disassemble them to load and whether if they feed properly is a hit or miss.

Go with steel lips or tactical innovations. Get yourself a mag loader to go along with them :)

Thats what I currently use, the 25 round steel lips. I got a mag loader aswell, but I want something that holds 50.

Are you talking about the tear drum? or the double stack ram-line or as someone has said "jam-line" lol

I've had a Mitchell teardrop since I first saw one in the mid '80's. It does not see much use.

They are awkward to load, and slow. You have to wind the spring up, and hold it fully wound with one hand, while loading the first 10 rounds or so. Then you have to let the spring down gently, until it seats the first of the rounds against the mag lips. You load most of the rest next, then you have to go back to the mag lips and the spring, and slowly wind it up a bit at a time, while hand feeding the last 7 or 8 round into it through the feed lips.

If you lose your grip on the wrench, it tends to disassemble itself, violently.

The latching clip that holds the back cover on mine broke off on the second or third load, and a rubber band holds it together.

I use the RamLine 30's and stock 10's. Cannot recall when I last used the Mitchell.

The short version. The Mitchell teardrop 50 was too much money for what you got. IMO anyways.

Cheers

I don't know about 50's, but I'll join the chorus singing the praises of the Butler Creek 25 round steel lips. I've got one and it's been great so far. Just as reliable as the Ruger10 round.

And yes, Virginia, there is a speed loader.

You do need to be careful how you use it though. If you're careless, you can get a couple of rounds wedged up into the pawls of the wheel that feeds rounds into the mag. This will result in extensive cursing and shaking and gyrating in an attempt to get them un-wedged.

And yes...full-cap mags with a semi-auto rimfire is a LOT of fun.

i just picked up a promag 50 round drum out of the states, they even shippd it to me. I heard alot of bad things about them but figured i had to try it out for myself .
The drum is super sturdy but the feed lips are cheap , i did a little filling and after about 200 rounds it worked pretty good , i get the odd jam but i dont care the thing looks awsome on my 10/22 with my t-6!! If anyone is interested in these drums you can get them from sksman in the states they are a hundred bucks , i think its worth it!

Oh yeah I almost forgot , the drums are a little bit akward to load and take a little bit of time , but once you get your rythm its good!!

no the the assault weapon ban is dead in the US i just cant figure why we dont have 100 rnd drum for the 10-22 ? anyone could made a fortune wih a high quality super high cap 22 mag for it

:agree:

I'd be willing to spend a few dollars for a nice 100rds magazine, seems like it would be do able in stamp steel with a winding mech. like the old thompson...

Ho well, in the mean time I'll stick to the Tactical Inc.

Mike.

I got 2 50rd tear drop ones that came with my Ruger 10/22 and well...

They suck... I think I got 2-3 uses out of them, before the spring well failed.

I checked on SIR's website for the butler creak mags, they have them, but it doesn't say if they are the hot lips are the steel lips models. Does anybody know which ones they are?

My only experience is with BC 25rnd mags. I can tell u one thing, I rarely get a jam with the steel-lips... but I bought 2 hot-lips a few months ago... and granted that it was ####in cold when I shot them, the the steel lips are much better. The rare jams I get with the steel-lips seem to be due to the ammunition (I use cheap #### cause I shoot like 500 whenever I go out). The hot-lips jam lots more. Oddly enough they fit tighter. But with the hot-lips u gotta press in the mag-eject [... ummm I guess if you got the stock 10/22 its a... well a goddamn flat thing] but anyways its gotta be depressed to just load the damn thing. You know what, seriously, just buy however many steel lips you can afford and you'll be happy :D . You just slap em in and go bang bang bang. If you wiggle after they are even 'drop-free'.
