Well,

I just received my 10/22 in the mail and took it out of the package. It told the guy to keep the stock as I had another one coming on the way. The factory magazine is in the gun and I can't seem to get it out. Am I retarded? What do I do?

I seem to remember it was hard to push the mag release far enough for it to disengage. I replaced it with a butler creek extended release 12 years ago - never had this problem again.

If I lock the bolt back by moving the mag release, I cant use the lever to release the mag because it is stuck holding the bolt back.

The space between the receiver and the magazine I can see something holding the mag in place, but nothing I do frees it from this obstruction.

It sounds like your not using the mag release... It's the one ahead of the bolt stop...;)

OMG... LOL

I knew I was retarded.... It sits so flush I didn't even know it was a mag release. The mag fell right onto my foot. haha

Thanks a bunch for clearing that up. Wow. :D

Well. I found the pin. It was so loose it fell out a second before I released the mag and slipped under my chair after an awkward bounce off the laptop charger..

Things aren't going my way. Anyways, all is well and I appreciate the help.

Cheers!

Any time you take the stock off, keep a close eye on the pins. They can be very loose and fall out easily. I find if I use the bolt hold open it will help keep pressure on some of the pins.

might be hacky, but i use a small smear of hot glue on the end of the pins after installing them. you can trim it if you glob too much on, and it scrapes off without damaging anything when you want to take it apart.

Identifying the proper "levers" and "releases" is pretty important. Owners manual points out all of these, all the parts, and the orientation of them to remove and reinstall. The stock usually holds the loose pins in, so if you don't have a stock, be wary of these. Cover the pins in duct tape, then remove it. The tackiness should help hold these pins in. Don't overdo it as it is possible to get tape goop in your parts, should just be a bit sticky. Most of my pins were to tight and I sanded them gently to get the right slide.

Make a note that the bolt lock, release lever is slightly behind the Mag release knob, and easy to miss. Hold back the bolt and click the rocker lever backwards. It should hodl your bolt. In stock 10/22s, hold the bolt back and rock it (release rocker) forward to release. (If you mod it, you can just nudge the bolt back a tad and the bolt releases and snaps closed.) The mag release is a black larger knoby type thing directly in front of the bolt lock/release lever.
