I have an old rufer 10/22 that has an issue. Symptom is after detail stripping it it once loaded will fire one shot cycle a new round and then just a click when I pull the trigger. I cycle the bolt manually and then the gun will fire again. Problem persists and same manual process needs to be performed to fire the next round.

Any ideas? Gun probably has 20000 rounds through it.

Thanks Irish.

Did you take the trigger apart when you cleaned it? Almost sounds like the hammer isnt cocking fully when fired but does when manually cycled, maybe you put the trigger together incorrectly?

If your feeling lazy you can just run to Cabelas and buy a new BX25 trigger

My bet is a dirty firing pin channel or dirty extractor groove. Either one will give you a type 1 stoppage.

I did strip it completely and clean it the first time. I just took it apart for the third time bit I just might take it apart again and check those two areas.

I have thought about buying the to get drop in unit but i just can't handle the plastic assembly. Something just seems wrong with that. Haha

Had a similar problem with a 10/22. Problem was solved by turning the hammer strut over so that the opening of the C clip has the opening facing up. My C clip is slightly dished so orientation seems to matter. Googled it and it seems it matters in some guns and not in others.

You might have gotten the trigger return spring switched with the hammer spring(if I have the terminology correct) during re-assembly.

sounds like you put it back together wrong if i had to guess.

just trying to think what would cause that problem.....

when it goes to do the 2nd shot you say it just goes 'click'
so is that a click like the hammer is dropping like normal or just a click that the seer is going over?

after the click is there any marks on the 22 round that is chambered, like a light strike?

without seeing it or info id guess that the hammer isnt getting fully cocked when the gun cycles.
without more info and or seeing it its hard to say.
wanna facetime?
haha

Thanks everyone for your responses. Intook the gun to the range yesterday and went through 200 rounds no issue. I used the same video to reassemble 3 times. Not sure what it was. I will keep shooting and see how it goes. Nice to have this little gun going again.

Take care everyone and thanks again.
