I noticed today by accident the following: I didn't realize the gun safety was on and I pulled the trigger to fire, which it didn't of course, but what it did was the trigger did have enough creep to make a slight click sound... when I realized the gun safety was on, I took it off and the first shot required about 1/3 of the normal pull weight to shoot. Surprised me actually. The remaining rounds fired with the normal weight. When I realized this I tried it again by putting the safety on and sure enough there was the click sound again and when I took the safety off it fired the 1st shot with the 1/3 pull weight again. This gun is new to me so is this normal for this gun?

Any help would be appreciated.

I pulled the trigger assembly out of the gun and what is happening is with the safety "on" there is enough rood for the trigger to move until it hits the safety pin and so the "click" I'm hearing is the sear moving slightly on the hammer... there is still enough contact between the sear and the hammer to keep from firing the gun but less distance to travel to fire when the safety is "off" causing the reduced trigger pull weight.

I guess I can either live with it or machine myself a slightly larger safety pin so there is no trigger/sear creep... I'll probably do that as I am one picky bugger :)

Do the J.B. Weld trick on your sear. (see 10/22 Tips & Tricks)
Much easier than making a larger safety and it should take up some of the creep you're currently experiencing. ;)

There were many reports of this situation on Rimfire Central... there were a number of threads.

You can also 'stretch' the left side of the sear leg. There's a recent thread in the 10/22 Action section of Rimfire Central that addresses this very thing (except on a Power Custom replacement hammer and sear kit).

I don't think I've ever used the safety on my 10/22's. Round in the chamber=not safe. No round in the gun= safe. I'll try it at the range and see if mine are the same.

I agree... even with my pistol my train of thought is my finger is my safey... BUT, with a hunting rifle it is a different story... safe on when walking through the woods and safe off to fire....
