I took my new Rugar 10/22 lasermax to the range for the first time yesterday and I was a bit disappointed. The laser was very difficult to see with the naked eye at 25 yards and pretty much disappeared at 50. I'm thinking I paid an extra $100 or so for a gimmick.
I also noticed that the gun was shooting 8"+ off to the left at 50 yards. Looking at the rear sight it was very visibly off centre . I know I'm a newb but whacking your new rifle with a hammer and a brass rod (as per the manual) seems a pretty crude way to adjust the sights.
Seems like Rugar could use a little better quality control before these go out the door. If you're going to use a rear site that's fixed in terms of windage at least put it on straight at the factory!
On a more positive note, the gun performed flawlessly with both the stock mag and a Butler Creek steel lips 25 round. It ate about 200 rounds of both Remington Thunderbolt and Winchester 555 with out a single hiccup.
