10/22 Mag Advice

Either the factory 10 rounders, or the Butler Creek "Steel Lips" in 25 round flavour works great for me. Zero problems with any ammo the gun likes (which is tyipcally 40 grain high velocity fodder).

Buy: (If you can find them) Tactical Innovations, plastic or alluminum.
Avoid: BC plastic lips. Steel are very good. Should run around $32 each.

I have a BC plastic lips one.....the follower is messed up already....didn't even use it that long.

Yeah- same here. After maybe 100-120 rounds the follower is messed up (lost surface area). Just no comparison with the steel lipped BC mags- they work and work well (for me). The plastic lip one has a lot of "failure to feed"s

B.

I also use BC Steel lips. They work well although I'm not thoroughly impressed with the seating. They tend to wobble around and occasionally I have experienced them dropping out. It doesn't happen very often but it happens none the less. You need to ensure they are fully seated which sometimes requires wiggling while pushing them into place.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't looked around too much but most places I have checked out seem to carry the "Hot Lips" but not the steel lips. I'll have to keep looking as I was going to buy a couple of the plastic lip ones but not now! TC

Buy the Tac-Inc's. I think you can get them from Brownells. They are more than the steel-lips, but they're about the best mags you can get.

BC steel lips suck in my opinion. They wobble around, jam every 3 shots and you can't take them apart to clean. Tried 3 different types of ammo with no changes at all, and I had to file off 1mm of metal off the top just to get them to fit snug in the gun! I will not be buying anything Butler Creek anymore.

IMHO the factory clear 10 rounders are the best unless you are doing high-volume plinking at the range, in which case get the butler creek steel lips.
i use my 10/22 for target shooting where a large banana mag wouldnt wouldnt work, and for varminting, swapping out every 10 rounds and having the mag flush with the receiver is fine. the clears let you see how many rounds you have left, and also let you use different types of ammo in different mags and be able to visually distinguish between them easily.

rimfiresports.com has them for $17.95 with free shipping to Canada. well worth the $2 upgrade from the $15.95 opaque black factory magazines.

How Yah Doin'!
I have 2 of the BC plastic lips, one usually has some failures while the other has been good to me. I recently purchased the steel lips model and was disappointed with it. Jammed the first time I took it out with CCI Stingers. I have yet to try with other ammo. So......I have never had a problem with the 10 round magazine the rifle came with so I would suggest you stay with them.
Good Luck

Every box of stingers I have tried had lots of fails

Mainly because on inspection they are all covered in blobs of wax?

CCI mini mag are by far the best - i have shot maybe 2000 rounds without a single failure yet.

Only thing is when using teh BC mag loader into a 50 rd magazine the brass casing starts to dent because so much force is required to insert the cartridge.

10/22 mags

Hey everyone,

I posted a few posts down a question about other large capacity mags for the 10/22.

Can you help a fellow out with your knowledge about mags.

Sorry about highjacking this thread but I think the two threads are about the same.

What is the least curved high capacity steel lip magazine for sale ?
I find some of these banana clips just to curved and looks pretty stupid.

They are all curved since .22 lips on the bottom of the casing stick out so much, they do not sit as flush together as most center fires rounds do. So anything above 10 which is no longer a box mag will curve.
