10/22 mag converted to .25 acp

Marlin M1892 was made in .32RF/.32CF combination. The firing pin ran in a slot along the top of the bolt, not unlike the Ruger. Slot was deep enough that the striker tip of one firing pin could strike the centerfire primer; the other struck the rimfire. This might be a workable solution. This project would be in the category of doing it for the sake of doing it. Lots of work and experimentation and expense for little practical gain. Who knows? Might be do-able, might not.

yep it would be doing it for the hell of it. making a little scout carbine of sorts

with speer gold dot hollow points should drop wolf/coyote faster then my .22 lr does :) without the damage to the fur like a hi power rifle round does

A 50gr hollowpoint at 900fps is going to be pretty marginal, compared to even a .22Magnum. Don't know that "drop" would be the best term. The arctic wolf pelt I have is over 6 feet long, was shot with a .222 I believe, and is not torn up at all.

well we dont have them big guys here most are about 100lb or so

rember that the test barrel for the ammo is only 4" or it mite be even less for .25 acp with a 20" or so barrel i should get some more fps out of it

i'll never use a .223 again on them to me a hi power rifle round does the same to the fur that it does to the meat

FWIW.

The .25 ACP is loaded to burn it's charge in a 2" barrel.
To gain velocity, the cartridge would have to be loaded with slower burning powder. otherwise nothing is gained by the longer barrel, indeed, the velocity out of the longer barrel with the normal loading, should be lower.
The tiny case does not have the capacity to take more powder.
Yes it is a neat little cartridge, and I have several neat little pistols to go with it.;)

If a person is going to handload anyway. might as well load down the .223.:)

Of course you must be a wealthy person to even consider such an approach to a non-existant problem.
I'm very happy for you Eh!.

Its good fun speculating about an utterly impractical project, that might be possible if a skilled gunsmith were to commit the time and energy. But let's face it. This one ain't going to happen any time soon.

How do you make rimfire firing pin work on center fire? I haven't looked so just sayin. With all the work going into it already, I guess it's just one more obstacle.

i haven't looked at a 10/22 bolt in awhile , but couldn't the bearing surface the pin rides on be machined over a bit , then the pin welded up and machined so it struck dead center ?
