I took my 10/22 apart to do the bolt lock mod and the bolt stop pin was missing. When I did my takedown and my sr 22 the pins were there.
I have never had an issue with the gun since new but should I be ordering this pin?

It's a great time to get yourself a bolt buffer. I've heard stories of the bolts stop being missing for thousands of rounds and no harm done, but I'd get either a factory bolt stop pin or a buffer before shooting any more.

Yes, the bolt stop pin should be replaced. If you look inside your receiver, you may notice some abnormal wear marks from the bolt hitting the back if the receiver.

I have tried the polymer bolt stop pins. Does feel a little softer in recoil, but they can be a pain to push in to the receiver. Recoil is minimal on a 10/22 anyhow so probably switch back to a steel pin later.

Get the Kidd bolt stop buffer...it's top quality poly on the outside and steel on the inside...
