I searched the forums as well as the "tips and tricks" area and couldn't find the answer to my question,

I got the Ruger 10/22 Standard Sporter Semi-Auto Rifle from Cabela's and am looking to get a rimfire thumbhole stock from Boyd's. The issue I am having is that the stocks from Boyd's are for a .920 barrel. I am new to modding stuff and am wondering if I can just buy a .920 barrel to change out the one I got with the rifle. Boyd's told me that those stocks are for "heavy barrels." This is for a gift, so the stock chosen is the one i need to get.

Ruger from Cabelas: http://www.cabelas.ca/index.cfm?pageID=71&section=1725&section2=1738&ID=4884

Any help for this one is appreciated.

You can use a regular std barrel in a .92 stock just not vice versa.

You can easily buy a heavy barrel for it if you want though however if you want to still get a Boyd's stock that is inletted for a .92 barrel, the current barrel on the rifle will fit just fine. It will only have more room.

If you are interested in changing barrels then I would suggest checking out YouTube instructional videos for a demonstration of how to do it. It is super easy.

The problem is....she only wants a certain type of stock, and only in a certain colour - the ones i found can't be found up here, and a lot of US companies wont ship up here. I will probably go through Boyd's and eventually try and find a .920 barrel somewhere.

Thanks for the help.

She is a picky one. The only style she likes is the one linked above in Boyd's. Another similar one she likes is called Tundra. And it MUST be blue!!

Can't see why you can't just swap the barrel to the heavy contour if that's what you want to complete the modifications. The barrel is held on by a block of metal that fits into a dovetail on the bottom of the barrel, and is pulled in to the receiver with 2 screws. The old barrel might be tight or loose, and the new barrel might be tight or loose. Should be a fairly easy swap.
