I am on the search for a new 22

I tried searching for a glossary of all the letter acronyms but I couldn't find one. I find it all quite confusing.

K10/22RPF
K10/22RB-JZ
10/22RPFCAAP

Can you tell me what all the letter stand for?

What is the difference between a K10/22 and a 10/22?

I am also looking for clarification on the band at the front of some of the stocks, what is it for and why do some rifles have it and others don't? I am looking for a gopher shooter and would like black synth and stainless but I really don't like the look of that band on the front of the stock. I tried talking to the guys at WSS in town, but it was a complete waste of time.

Here is a picture of the band I am talking about and one without.

Can anybody give me advice on the model number I should be after and what dealer is the most knowledgeable? Thanks

There's a lot of 10/22 models that seem to go in and out of production. The only way I know is to look on the ruger website for current models.

I am also looking for clarification on the band at the front of some of the stocks, what is it for and why do some rifles have it and others don't?
Mostly for looks, it's suppose to keep the barrel from popping up out of the stock I guess. It may or may not help accuracy. Some stocks don't have them for looks as well.

Don't like the band on the black synthetic stainless? Test for accuracy without it, if it shoots fine, put the barrel band for sale up on the EE.
Or get the cheapest stainless model you can find, and buy a aftermarket stock for it that doesn't need a barrel band and is to your liking.

The front band may be for the strength for the sling swivel. Just threaded into the wood it tended to be strong, but the stud tended to shift in the plastic and strip. So they put it on all guns after a certain date. It also stopped the warp associated with the "plastic barrel trough". Take it off if you wish but you may find you may have to bed the barrel after to stop the vibration.

Het wassup dude. I love my 10/22 it is the wood and blued model with the band. I have read on here people shooting with and without it and there really seems to be no difference on accuracy. I am restocking mine with an aftermarket ATI and there is no need for the band and the stock can be run bedded or not.

Good to know, I called Ruger today, they had a hard time telling me what all the letters meant. They said they would try and get back to me with an actual list.

I am looking at the ATI as well, did you find one on the EE or get one locally?

The band is on the 10/22 Carbine and the 10/22 All-Weather models.

It's not for a sling. Only the 10/22 Target comes with factory sling swivels.

The Carbine and All-Weather also have a deeply concave butt plate.

the DSP model (deluxe spoter) also has sling swivels. some of the newer carbines have them too, most notable are the laminate stock versions. the front sling swivel attaches via the through bolt of the barrel band.

the barrel band is not nessecary, and likley will hinder accuracy, if you're picky enough to notice.

all models function the same, they only appear different.

buy what you like, and what you think looks good. they can be greatly modified, or left completely alone and funtion fine.
