Hi guys and gals

I have a 10/22 that has about 2000 rounds through it and is about 3 years old. The problem is that it is not throwing the empty casing out of the receiver. It is pulling them out of the chamber. I have completely stripped it and cleaned it. I would put an ejector in it if that will fix the problem but I am not sure as it is pulling them out of the chamber. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

Thank you
Archer

Clean, clean, clean.

~ Clean under the extractor, the corners in the bolt face and the groove in the barrel that fits the extractor.
~ Make sure the extractor moves freely.
~ Check the breech face, look for impact marks from firing pin strikes...has metal been displaces into the chamber?

A Volquartsen extractor cured stovepiping in my 10/22, which is an older model I bought used. Extractors can either wear out or are sometimes not quite right as they come from the factory. Even though the case is extracted from the chamber by blowback, the extractor geometry has to be right in order to provide correct timing for ejection.

The primary ejector on a 10/22 is on the magazine and doesn't usually cause problems, nor does the "backup" ejector mounted in the trigger group.

A Volquartsen extractor is about $25 and it is easy to install. If you can not find them where you live, Jo-Brook Firearms in Brandon, Mb. sells them and they do mail order. The order phone line is (204) 571-3006, their regular phone number is (204) 727-3552.

One other thing---------have you changed your brand or type of ammunition lately? If so, go back to your original brand, or try another brand to see if it acts the same.

Yeah +1 on the Volquartsen extractors they will fix alot of ejection problems I was averaging 2-3 FTE a 25rd mag with the stock stamped extractor and after i put in the volquartsen extractor that rate dropped to 1-2 every 3 mags.
