10/22 Not so bad after all

I got a new 10/22 not so bad as every one would seem to say as (in need help to buy a new .22 rifle...) Litsen geez I know that a few might get a few lemonds. But I went out and shot 250 rem golden bullets in rapid burst and all I got Was 2 missfires... Upon closer inspection, the fireing pin hit the round so were these (duds)....has anyone else had this happend to them?
This being said a great rifle, super easy to take down and clean in the field. But one big thing....... the sights suck to high heaven.

The 10/22 hasn't been the most successful semi auto 22 for 40 years because it sucks. Every company puts out lemons, it happens. As for bad rounds. That's fairly common with rimfire ammo. Most folks simply rotate the cartridge 180' and try it again. Remember, the 10/22 firing pin strikes at the 12 o'clock positon so rotate the strike mark to 6 o'clock and go again. Usually the cheaper the ammo, the more failures to fire you'll have.

Welcome to the real world. I've had 3 different ones over the years. I've sold them, bought others and always ended up buying another 10/22. They work well and that's what counts. I have my latest one up for sale only because I need the money to fund another purchase. If I can find a way to get around selling it, I will definitely keep it.

i have 8 and they all work perfectly my daughter has a stainless synthetic i got my sister a centennial model for her birthday (july 1st 1967) and gave it to her in a presentation case.my niece and nephew got them for their birthdays (16th) .. i got my girlfriend the compact for her birthday it has a red dot and she picks off cherry tomatoes at 25 yds rapid fire.i cant figure out why so many people have so much trouble them, they are pretty fool proof.the marlin 795 is the better deal for the dollar though imho
 
mine never and I say NEVER had a malfunction. About 3000 rounds. And even with hi cap mag. It was stock. I say it was, because I'm trying a new stock and a new barrel now.
 
After changing out the extractor to a VQ, I have never had an issue with my 10/22RR. Definitely a keeper, and in fact I'm looking for another one with a shorter barrel.
 
If I ever got interested in semi auto 22s I would get a ruger, but in all honesty, I'm more interested in getting my accuracy down, and 'making every shot count'
 
Yea, my 10/22 hasn't FTF or FTE yet. And thats shooting mostly walmart dynapoints. After reading some of the 10/22 threads I was scared I might get a lemon. But you gotta remember about all the 10/22s they are selling, atleast a few got to have a little problem. And their probably 1000s of other ones they sell, that work perfect, that you never hear about.

And by the sounds of it, if it ever starts shooting bad, a few bucks spent at hawktech will take care of any problems it seems.
 
For me one of the things I really like about the 10/22 is the mag. It's easy on the thumbs to load if you do a lot of shooting.

It is more accurate out of the box, it has a last-shot-bolt-hold-open catch, and it's less expensive to boot.

Granted it doesn't have as many cool aftermarket options, but if you're not into that it doesn't really matter.

All I did to mine was change the stock out for an ATI 'Dragunov' looking thing and threw a scope on it. I can shoot a 2" target (Juice bottle lid" at 50 yards free hand so it's definitely good for plinking and hunting. If you're looking for more than obviously this isn't the gun for you. :cool:

My 10/22 easily made shots like that out of the box. Even with just a cheapo tasco scope as its first modification it was a lil tack driver. I was surprised especially given how lots of people (many of whom on closer inspection don't even have a 10/22) told me it wasn't a very accurate rifle.

Like I said I love my 10/22 now and it's one of my favorite rifles.
 
I'm glad to hear that. Really I am. I have had 2 10/22's and both lacked the accuracy I see with my Marlin. I obviously got a couple of lemons. They were both used and for sale kinda cheap so I guess I should known. :rolleyes:

Either way, I'm having a blast with mine and I'm glad to hear that you are too.

I have the Deluxe Sporter Edition with a Tasco World Class scope on it. 2" groups easy. the only time it jams is when i blazing 25 rds out of the banana mag and the rounds stick. probably the rounds, not the gun, as i shoot American Eagle.
 
It's a great platform. I have three 10-22's and they all use the same reciever:D
BC folder and 50rnd banana mag and laser , regular carbine , and a tack driver with thumbhole stock , green mountain heavy fluted barrel, bushnell elite.
One gun , three different fun models in 10 minutes......:)

Mine's flawless as long as you keep the chamber and extractor areas free of debris. I gave up on American Eagles tho, too many FTF's. Pretty much stick with CCI Mini-Mags now, a little more money but I've only had 1 dud in about 9-10 000 rounds, the high cap mags and speed loader are great as well.
