10/22 one trigger pull, two shots

lol, I don't think he wants me taking his gun apart. especially cause it runs perfect

I'm positive I put everything back together properly, I watched youtube videos and searched the internet. I only took the bolt hold piece out, did the mod and replaced it. I didn't touch the hammer or trigger

I've taken the bolt apart and cleaned everything. it all looks good

the only thing i can think of is a weak firing pin spring combined with a strong recoil spring.....but then why don't I get slam fires when loading one round directly into the chamber and slamming the bolt closed?

also I don't even see a firing pin mark on the ruptured case that blew up out of battery

still waiting to hear from Ruger service center. there's nothing mentioned about any kind of warantee in any of their literature that came with the gun

this POS is turning me off from Ruger 10/22's....I just wanted some good cheap reliable fun. It's turned out to be a real turd and a jamomatic

If he's nice enough ask to swap his bolt and try it out.
Then swap the trigger group.
I think it's your trigger group.
Did you reassemble the trig. Group correctly when you did your mod?

possibly too little headspace? IE: the rim gets compressed when the bolt slams into it when chambered? I know you say it doesn't do it when you let the bolt go, but maybe in semi auto cycling, it has more energy from bouncing off the back of the receiver?
 
still waiting to hear from Ruger Canadian warranty depot in Quebec

sent them pics, explained all the problems feeding, ejecting, stovepipes, slam firing, double feeding....

Send us the gun and I'll repair it on warranty, it's probably a defective bolt as I've had a few cases like this recently. Once we replace the bolt the guns work just fine.

I don't think it's the hammer and sear. it won't budge when bumped or hit with a mallet, only when the trigger is pulled

that leaves the bolt....firing pin spring too weak? I took everything apart and everything seems normal and clean

I said the magazines are usually the culprit for an "out of battery" explosion, not for multiple firings...

Multiple shots per trigger pull are usually;

1. Trigger sear
2. An out of spec bolt

That's great news, too bad it didn't work out of the box like it should have.

I saved the blown case and took a picture next to a normal casing. I sent the picture to Ruger service center

this is a bone stock Ruger 10/22 takedown with no mods except the bolt release mod. it's given me nothing but problems since about round 150....I thought 10/22's were supposed to be reliable.

I get nothing but FTF, FTE, double feeds, stovepipes, firing out of battery, slam fires......my friend's vintage 10/22 is totally reliable.

they don't make them like they used to....

Glad they're fixing it for you. At a big range I used to shoot at, you'd probably have had it confiscated under suspicion it had been modded to fire automatically.
 
the gun is on it's way to Quebec for repairs under warantee. $65 shipping

all I wanted was some cheap reliable fun....it's turning out to be not so cheap and not so fun. and not reliable

hopefully it's gonna come back all perfect and feed anything, with any type of mag, and never ever stovepipe again.

ruger 10-22s and rugers mark I,II are very close in their sear and hammer design. I've taken some very, very fine sandpaper and polished the sear and hammer to avoid getting the feeling of scratching when you pull the trigger almost like an SKS, very rough pull. The last mark II went full auto. I could not release the finger fast enough to stop the 10 round mag from emptying every time. Did not want to be accused of modifying my gun so I bought new sear and sold the gun. I'm not much a fan of semi guns only because I enjoy the safety of knowing, I loaded the gun, when I manually #### it. You may need to replace hammer and sear, probably a warranty issue. I got the gun back.....it feeds and ejects perfect now, but still double fires with one trigger pull consistantly

Ruger absolutely refuses to replace or refund the gun. once they have your money, there's no way in hell they're gonna give it back.

it will be going back to Snap Shots for the second time. last time took a month to put a new bolt in it and send it back. they said it's a common problem with recent 10/22's but I never heard of anyone getting constant double fires except for myself.

this whole experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth. I will never buy another Ruger product again. I was never a big fan of Ruger anyways. the only good thing I can say about Ruger products is they're cheap

since I don't have a semi, would you consider trading it for a norinco 98 mauser copy in 22. Its a copy of a cz 452 with mauser type stock. I have never fired it and am the second owner. I'll eat the cost of hammer and sear. I just know thats your problem. I'm in abby.
