I have a Ruger 10/22 Target Barrel. What kind of Optics would you reccomend? Don't want to invest too much as this is my first firearm and will be moving to bigger calibre in the near future.

Money on nice optic is never wasted... even more so on a rimfire rifle... because it will mostlikely be the firearm that you will shoot the most rounds through.

When ever possible, look for a "rimfire" specific scope from Burris/Weaver/Leupold, a rimfire scope will have it's paralax set to 50 yards (while centerfire scope will be at 100-150 yards)

Safe shooting,
Mike.

I've also got a Weaver rimfire scope on my 10/22 and I am very happy with it. Mine is a straight 4X, which works great for gopher shooting. I'd probably go with a little more magnification if you use your rifle mostly for target use though. The Weavers have decent optics and are designed for rimfire distances.

I have a Mueller APV (4-14) on mine, and I think it's an awesome scope for the money.

The reticle is a BIT thick for paper punching, but I've killed well over 3000 gophers with it, and none of them complained. :)

The Meuller APV 4.5-14x40 is a good scope for the money. I also have a Bushnell 6-24x adjustable objective that although it isn't the highest quality of optics, it works ok for target shooting.

Take as much as you spent on the rifle, then spend that much on the optics. Thats a great rule of thumb that will never let you down.
The Vortex scopes seem really awesome for the money.
Don't be afraid to buy used, thats a much better way to stretch your money then buying cheap.
Cheers,
Grant
