10/22 or 597

I own a ruger and my wife a Remington, both are fine but I have to say the Remington just feels better and have never had a jam or ftf, I can't say the same for the ruger(although rare) handle both and pick the one that fits you best in my opinion
 
Neither is better or worse than the other. The remington has some great features and the design is well thought out. The magazine is a disgrace and therefore it never gets much of a thought from me. The one thing the ruger does better than any other 22 is the magazine. There is nothing I can say about the 10/22 that someone hasn't already said. Give the 567 a better mag and I'm sure it would put a bigger dent into the sales of the venerable 10/22.
 
Have had a 10/22 carbine for many years....... Never an issue shooting with Wildcats.
Just bought a stainless 10/22 take-down for snowshoe trips... Will see how I works in the cold.....

I use one of my 10/22 stainless takedowns for hunting and odd bush trip gun (the other is my test pig)... you won't be disappointed. I usually use G96 on it but in low sub zero Temps I use just a dusting of dry graphite and it's been flawless.

Never touched a 597 but bought a 10/22 3 yrs. ago and have had nothing but good luck with it. eats anything and shoots great. added a bushnell trs -25 red dot for even more fun.
 
Kinda depends if you want the ability to tacticool your rifle or shoot as is...
Any 10/22's I've seen or shot , were accurate , smooth action and well built rifles ...the LOP seems too short for me however. Even with a winter hunting coat , it just felt uncomfortable for "me".
I have the 597 mag which I had probs with feeding and light strikes . Found the prob and dealt with it successfully and since then , it's shot every time as fast as I can pull the trigger and with great accuracy hunting or at the range. Quality control , at the source , was the root of the problem . What I learned about that was Remington is not what they used to be. The mags are poorly designed and built but at least , I have not had any probs with it.
I've have not seen the Marlin 795 but Marlin rifles are well built and the 795 gets great reviews. That would be one to possibly check out.
Before you finalize your decision , check out your local gunshop ( small country shops are best ) and see what's on the rack..who knows..you might fall for a good ol Cooey.

I'm in the 10/22 camp. Have a heavy fluted barrel that the wife got me many years ago and it's seen quite a few rounds. Very enjoyable rifle. With all the options available it's like the baby brother to the AR platform. Not sure how you can't like this rifle but people can always find something to complain about. Or just forget about these fancy new rifles and get yourself a nice Cooey model 60! Bolt action is great fun as well!
 
For a straight out of the box gun, go with a Remington 597. My brother has one and it's a tack driver. If you place a high amount of importance on modifying your gun, the Ruger 10 22 is your gun of choice.
 
The remmy 597 hands down winner, right out of the box it is a tack driver. A few drops of lube on the bolt rails and she purrs like a kitten. I picked up a 597 AAC-SD a while back and it is a solid investment. No need to tactical it up since the lil varmints don't get close enough to see it anyways. The 10/22's are over priced in my opinion for what you get. Also with the 597 it eats all the ammo I feed it. Wildcat, cci, American eagle, you name it it will cycle. Even with subsonic ammo it cycles and keeps chewin through the ammo. To be honest I should have bought this rifle a long time ago, but I am making up for it now. The wife shoots this bad boy all day and consistently has a quarter size grouping at 100yards after 5 mags of the cheap bulk Winchester, so with better ammo will come better results......



Remmy 597 for the win in my books.
