So i have put about 10,000 rnds threw my 10/22.
I have TG2000 trigger group for it and a exact edge extractor.
I have had no problems with it at all shooting federal buck pack ammo.I clean it after every 1000rnds or so.
I was shooting it on the weekend and it started to make light firing pin strikes on rim of case.So i thought ok it needs a cleaning.Took it home and gave it a good cleaning.Took it out again and no dice.Same thing was happening.I tried a couple of other types of ammo and no go.
Took it home and removed the firing pin and gave it a better cleaning.It was pretty dirty in there.Put it back together and still getting the same problem.
Could the fireing pin be worn out?

Does your firing pin move freely inside the bolt.
Push the pin from the back of the bolt and see it it moves fully forward and springs back with no resistance.
 
One of mine gets hard crud buildup on the breechface of the barrel which is very hard to remove and holds the bolt open slightly causing light pin strikes. Amazingly the other one never has that problem. I've never seen a worn out firing pin and one of my guns has over 50,000 rounds through it.

I was having the same problem after I installed a new bolt handle. The new handle arm (that stradles the bolt) had too much play so teh firing pin would move up a little and cause light hits or FTF.

I re-installed the factory bolt handle and it worked flawlessly.

I fixed the problem with the aftermarket bolt handle by placing a shim on the bottom of the bolt handle. That was about 2500 rnds ago and it still works very well.

Take a look at your bolt handle, is there any obvious wear there?

I have never heard of anyone wearing out the firing pin in a 10/22. But that would be my first guess if the bolt handle is fine.

I was wondering about the bolt handle myself.I did notice some movement of the fireing pin up and down.I will take a close look at it later.
Its also a after market bolt handle and looks cheap.I got rid of the factory one.:redface:Anyone know where to get a factory one?
 
Ok i got a new/used factory bolt handle and tried that.Still no dice:mad:
I borrowed my buddys bolt to see if that was the problem.Nooope.
Then i switched out the Volquarten trigger group for a factory trigger group.Sureley it couldnt be the exspensive trigger group;)Well guess what it was:eek:
Seems the spring in the Volquartsen has worn out.I have always wondered about the that spring how it is coiled around the hammer where as the factory one is a solid spring in the back.
Ok now i have to find a used trigger group.I heard the new plastic ones wont accept after market parts like exact edge extractor.Can anyone confirm this.

...well the extractor does not install into any trigger group but i get what you're saying. some of the aftermarket parts won't fit the plastic trigger group.

the hammers in the new trigger groups have integral hammer bushings, but you can use the aftermarket hammers if you get the old style bushings.

The old style bushing come with the hammer and sear kits. I just ordered the PC kit from Hawktech and they were part of the package.

yes this is correct, i just got my PC hammer and sear kit today from Hawktech and the shims are included with the kit now to fit the hammer into a plastic trigger group. i emailed Hawktech beforehand and any hammer and sear kit from PC or VQ include these shims now.
