Ruger has the 10/22 VLEH tactical, it comes with the bull barrel which you stated your not looking for, an upgraded trigger, Hogue overmolded tactical stock, bipod and a weaver rail mounted up top all for around $500, add a scope and some rings and your plinking

I don't have any current pics but if you are looking for the "old school" look you migght consider a standard Ruger delux (walnut/checkered) stock--I enlaged the barrel channel to fit a Green Mountain fluted target barrel and worked over the bolt/trigger. Performs quite nicely.

I'm more drawn to the kinda romanticized "rifleman" idea, and that is what inspired me.

Next step for me now is finding a scope I like... where DOES the money go!
