Ok I am new to the customization of firearms, soo here goes. Last night I traded a Mossberg 715t for a 10/22. It is older a serial # search says 1976 or 77. I decided over my night at work that this would become a project gun for my better half. I have measured her up for LOP and it is about 11.5" this leads me to think a youth stock??? Also thinking a trigger kit and optics. I am looking for advice on all of this. As a jumping off point I am going to look for a semi fancy laminate stock, I'm hoping I don't have to go custom to fit her. Where is a good place to start looking for parts for this build? I don't currently have access to the EE.

I put my new 10/22 in a Christie's 7 position stock, and I love it. My son and I both shoot it, he's 4' 10" and I'm 6' 6". Great price from Brownell's, I paid $99 for it and had it shipped to Canada without any issues, although I did have to pay customs, but it was still cheaper than anything local. It's synthetic, not laminate though. Worth a look. I've also ordered from them for an extractor, extended mag release and auto bolt. All came just fine, but more customs fees. Only thing I wanted that they wouldn't ship was the extended charging handle. Have to find one in Canada that isn't too pricey. Let me know if you track one down.

I will be keeping an eye open. I have until september to do tis build. She is a fan of the "classic" look with a little flash, hence the laminate stock. I have ulterior motives for this build. I figure if I do a build for her she won't make a big stink when I do one for me lol. Starting with a .22 before I do my custom hunting rifle build.

I think you might be interested in Boyd's Stocks.

There are a fair number of 10/22 threads around here, but check out RimfireCentral for lots of great DIY projects.

Built this last night.

Boyd ss evolution stock $99
Dlask barrel and receiver
Very short and nice to hold, my 11 and 12 year old daughters love the feel of it too, so good for short grips.

If you're looking for trigger parts consider hical.ca. Tonight I ordered a target hammer kit for my dad's to lighten the pull. Within minutes the order was processed and will be here tomorrow morning! That kind of service I like!

Check out Boyd's for stocks, they have lots of 10/22 options and will cut to length if you want a custom LOP. Keep the price under $100 before shipping and you are good to go.

Ok found a stock now just to order it up. Question is.
A: how do I measure the barrel contour of the rifle I have now?
B: if it isn't a .920 will a standard barrel fit in a stock cut for a .920 barrel

Just the outside diameter of the barrel, nothing special.

You can put a lighter-profile barrel in a larger stock, yes, but it will look a little "unconventional"

you should just order a stock to fit a 920 barrel. if your starting a build, you will deffinately want a bull barrel somewhere down the line. (probably sooner than later) i put a tactical solutions from Wanstalls on mine and i love it!

You guys are great. Thank you so much for the help. You will be hearing a lot more from me as this build progresses. What do you all think of the timney drop in trigger kits or is there a better system out there

I ordered a timney drop in trigger from a local gun shop about 2 months ago. Still waiting. Did you find timney drop ins in stock somewhere? What stock did you end up going with? 10/22 builds can really get addicting. It's an expensive hobby, but sure is fun. Let us know how you make out along the way.

Pretty sure I'm going to order a Boyds Blaster for the stock on it. As for the trigger I might just wind up ordering a hammer kit through Dlask or Hical. I'm on the hunt now for a 12.5" barrel

I have until september to finish the build then giving it to my girlfriend for her birthday. Ulterior motive: if I build her one first maybe she won't give me so much grief when I want to build mine.

Update: After talking to the boss lady we have decided to make an attempt at shortening the stock ruger stock and doing a snakeskin paintjob on it. Any advice? I measured lop and made a jig to keep the butt profile for the trim just a case of whether or not I will need a new butt cap for it

Ok so stock is trimmed and painted up. I'll upload some pics as soon as I figure out how from my phone. If anyone wants to advise me as to how to upload them please pm

You have to upload them to a photo hosting service such as imageshack, photobucket, etc. Then you paste the location link for the pic into your post using the upload image button.
