10/22 question

Good point.. can you make and sell better quality at a cheaper price is probably the botom line

Yeah, best to go with a smaller, more difficult market for a better chance of low sales volume and ultimately failing outright. Who would jump on the popular bandwagon anyways? People who want to succeed? PFFT!

Hey guys, I am looking to start a side business making aftermarket stocks, and have decided to start with the ruger 10/22...Everyone seems to have one and I know theres a market for that stuff... My question is (im pretty sure the answer is yes): Exluding barrel length are all 10/22 built to the same dimensions (as in the action portion). I will be getting one, but before i invest money and time into this venture I figured i should double check... If anyone is curious, my first design is modeled after the HK PSG-1...
thanks in advance

Your first answer - "yes they are" may not be accurate. The actions are the same (I believe) but sometimes you'll get a bigger diameter barrel out of the factory.

My reason for starting with a 10/22 is simply the shear quantity out there...good way to gauge interest I figure. But when working with composites and building from a mold, its very easy to expand into other models. A previous poster suggested the marlin 795, If the shooting community likes my designs, then I simply make a mold of the marlin action and swap it with the 10/22...easy (I think). I believe I can also keep the price low and still make a profit. What people dont realize with composites, is that the cost to make the parts is not much. When you buy from a company you pay more to cover the R&D (ie designing/building the mold). The big question is can I match the quality...time will tell, but im sure gonna try!

Make a precision stock like the Boyd's tacticool. Canada needs an affordable option like that.

+1 for this, in carbon fiber!!! *fap fap fap*

I'll echo what these guys are saying. If you can come up with a similar product, somewhat competitively priced, I'll buy.

Yes, everyone builds stuff for 10/22s, but how much of that has made it into Canada in the past several years? There is a big opening in the market for someone to step up.

Good luck with your venture, I'd like to see an good affordable stock available.
Ive always wondered why some of the other plastic stock makers charge so much for their product. I can't see spending the same amount on a stock as you did for the completes gun.
